Today’s issue of The Club List gets into a long-running quirk that’s as pervasive among music industry veterans as it is among creators: After a while, some people get stuck into starting from “no.” You’ve probably heard these phrases. They read like religious mantras after a while. I have heard them echo through cocktail mixers, record label offices, green rooms, and - strangely enough - after-parties with the band. I refer to this as The Culture of No. “Why would we do that process differently?” “What makes you think THAT would work?” “Why should I take 10 seconds to hear that band?” “Why should I listen to anything new when I already know what inspires me?” There is a whole subtext to The Culture of No, involving negative thought loops and such, that I am barely scratching the surface with. But this is about something I’ve found repeatedly to be true, when presented with another person’s art. You are not going to be tainted by starting from maybe. Starting from no will make you a dinosaur. Starting from maybe leads to growth. Read more, and subscribe for free, at theclublist.net.

All Fools' Day Don't be deceived. The proper way to spell this day is "April Fools' Day." This spelling has been used since the 1800s. Why? If you understand your apostrophes, then you know that placing the apostrophe after an S indicates a plural. There is not just one fool on this day; there are many tricksters roaming around! No one knows for sure how April Fools’ Day began, but there are some theories that trace it back to centuries ago. One possible origin is an ancient Roman festival called Hilaria, which took place at the end of March. During this celebration, people would wear costumes and masks and make fun of or mimic others. A possible origin of this tradition is 16th-century France. Charles IX changed the start of the new year from around Easter and spring festivals, which lasted a week, to January 1. Some people did not know or accept the change and kept celebrating the old new year. Others made fun of them by sticking paper fish on their backs and calling them "poisson d'avril", which means April fish. In Scotland, a common prank was to send someone on a phony errand called "hunting the gowk," or to attach fake tails or "kick me" signs to their backs without their knowledge. Some people think that the name "All Fools" was intended as a mocking contrast to All Saints' (November 1) and All Souls' (November 2) Day. Some people like to take April Fools’ Day to the next level by creating elaborate hoaxes or fake news. Here are some examples: - In 1905, a German newspaper called Berliner Tageblatt claimed that a group of robbers had tunneled under the U.S. treasury and stolen $268 million worth of silver and gold. - In 1957, the BBC broadcasted a story about how Swiss farmers had a record harvest of spaghetti, along with a video of people picking noodles from trees. You can watch the video here: https://lnkd.in/eZKZeaxc - In 1962, SVT (Sveriges Television) was the only TV station in Sweden that broadcast in black and white, and it announced that viewers could convert their existing sets to display color by pulling a nylon stocking over the screen. - In 1983, Boston University professor Joseph Boskin created a story about the origin of April Fools’ Day when speaking to an AP reporter. He said the day originated when Roman Emperor Constantine agreed to let one of his jesters, “Kugel,” become “king for a day.” Boskin, of course, made the entire story up. - In 1985, Sports Illustrated published a fictitious story by George Plimpton about a never-before-heard-of pitching prospect by the name of Sidd Finch, who could throw a baseball 168 miles per hour. - In 1992, NPR aired an interview with Richard Nixon, in which he declared his intention to run for president again. It was, of course, not Richard Nixon, but rather an actor. A great many experts in these here parts... *cue Clint Eastwood spaghetti western music* Settle those spurs and listen in for a moment: Being an EXPERT requires that you ACTUALLY be an expert. It is not defined by the stage your picture is taken on. It is not made true by the logos you hang under your name. Nothing wrong with those things (at all); but, too many folks are chasing after the LOOK of expertise instead of dirtying their hands in becoming an expert. Keep that up and we'll need to meet in town center around high noon... better have your expertise loaded. The glitz and the glam is for shallow show - if the desire to truly impact others is the desire, be prepared for discomfort and a lot of growth for yourself. Remember, to be an expert requires that you have comprehensive and thorough knowledge on the subject matter... not just a certificate of completion. When I became a medic and was handed my patch, I was suddenly required to take on a lot of responsibility. But I wasn't an "expert" at it... and no one I worked with considered me to be one - yet. I had to earn it. I had to get in the trenches - and ditches - rub up against blood and dirt and despair. I became an expert - but it took time. And even then - if I'm being honest - I never "felt" like an expert because there was always something knew to learn. So, I didn't flaunt it. I'm no longer in that arena; so, if I were to jump back in I'd have to immediately realize I am no longer an expert... yet. (I'd become one - but humility would be the key to unlock that door.) One walk across the stage does not an expert make. So set the goal ahead of you and be honest along the way - you'll get there when you get there. ✌

I never considered taste, I mean the innate taste that comes with how we are raised and the environment that influenced us. The love of classic rock versus classical music, the difference between not having and minimalism and how that affects us. We can change our status on the ladder as we age but some things are buried in our taste that remains with us always. These are not embedded in our income, our location, our interests or our community, these come from tastes that have been developed regardless of the change in any of those items. Redefining Dynasty Music, Day 3 Jana, eh jana, I won't even lie. I was really discouraged by the time I finished posting a report of yesterday's challenge. I thought I had figured it out after working on it for the longest time. Today, my mind was so tired and I wanted to come back home and sleep and forget about all of it. But something... Yesterday as I spoke to one of my peeps, she mentioned something to do with your state of mind affecting your creativity. Then today, one of my other peeps posted something to do with our mindsets. Then it hit me... I need to do something about my mindset other than postpone the challenge. And what's amazing, as powerful as the mind can be, we can bring its thoughts under the obedience of CHRIST. And so I began again... And here we are... We shall fine tune it as we go on and as we get more clarity on our vision, mission and goal. Or maybe, this is it! Three big lessons for me today... 1. One time or another, you will have to do it. Now is a good a time. 2. It's okay to go back to the drawing board if it doesn't make sense. It doesn't make you a loser, it's part of the winning process. 3. No one prepares you for how hard it is to fit a social media bio into a space with limited characters. You have to be ready to give up some words and exchange with others, rephrase and erase, keeping your vision and message alive and thoroughly clear. Weeeeh!! #DynastyMusic #RedefiningDynastyMusic #Redefining #Build #Building #BuildingBusinesses #Steward #Stewardship #Business #KingdomBusiness #Bio #Biography

It has been said that "the greatest act you will ever create is the act of creating yourself". You have the ability to create in every present moment. When you tap into the energy of the universe that surrounds and envelops you, you embody the essence of creation. I’m in a very special place in nature, listening to the extraordinary musical creations of my son, Luca Diadul. It reminds me that we can create beauty and magnificence when we are present with what matters most to us and pursue bringing it into our world. Often, we don't know the "how" or the practical steps, and we always navigate thoughts, emotions, and feelings that could potentially stand in the way of our creation. Music has been a significant part of Luca’s life, his entire life. However, it wasn’t until the pandemic that he made an active choice to pursue it as his career. He embodies his choice in a way that is a masterclass for anyone obsessed with doing what they love. He is always writing music, performing, recording, producing, teaching music to children—the list goes on. It’s a daily commitment borne out of love. And the result is music that touches many hearts. It could have been easy for him to stop, and it still could be easy for him to stop when life doesn’t align with what’s in his heart. But he knows what he’s here to do, always growing, putting himself “out there” and evolving gloriously. This is what’s available to you in your chosen act of creation. There’s no better time than this moment to begin what you’re here to create. Be who you are meant to be, in all your wins, defeats, and ultimate glory. Stay with it. You’re meant to express your true self.

🎵: “Walk On Water” - SLANDER, Wooli, Trivecta (REINVENTED Mix) @slander @wooli @trivectamusic @ultra @edm_maniac @edm Full Music Video: https://lnkd.in/gRBDEau7 Slander’s ‘Walk on Water’ delves into the raw emotions of a lost connection and speaks to the tempest within — those moments when doubt and regret feel overwhelming. The lyrics paint a vivid picture: a storm of self-doubt (“the wind is at your door”), the crushing weight of past mistakes (“drowning in the wake”), and the deceptive voices that hold us back (“tell you lies”). Yet, amidst this turmoil, the song offers a powerful message of resilience and a willingness to do anything for a second chance (“I would walk on water...to get back to you”). This theme of overcoming internal and external obstacles resonates deeply within the high-energy atmosphere of Ultra Miami. The festival setting becomes a metaphor for the personal battles we all face. Slander’s performance at Ultra this past weekend brings this message to life, offering an emotional touchstone amidst the celebration. We’re committed to capturing the full impact of this performance. Our creative partnership with top-tier live event producers and our advanced multi-cam approach are designed to immerse you in the heart of the music. Expect more stunning visuals and expertly captured angles that will amplify the emotional core of our artists we help support showcasing the vulnerability and raw power that make Slander’s music so compelling. 🎸🎶 A bit of Friday afternoon fun! 🎶🎸 As much as I'm passionate about #marketing, there's another love that rocks my world – music! 🎵 From the iconic riffs of my favourite band, Thin Lizzy, to the timeless anthems of Queen, classic rock has a very special place in my heart 🎸😍🤘 So! I was thinking earlier this week about unlikely pairings if rock songs were used for marketing certain companies 🤔 Like Foreigner's "Cold as Ice" for a heating company advert – talk about ironic! ❄️🔥 What other rock songs do you think wouldn't quite hit the mark for certain businesses? Let's riff on this together! 😉🎸🤣 Here are my top 5 ideas: 1️⃣ ‘Stairway to Heaven’ by Led Zeppelin – used in a lift maintenance company ad 2️⃣ ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ by Queen - wouldn't be used by a funeral home! 3️⃣ ‘Purple Haze’ by Jimi Hendrix – used to promote air fresheners (it might *quite possibly* give the wrong impression! 😆) 4️⃣ ‘Livin' on a Prayer’ by Bon Jovi - used by a financial planning firm! 5️⃣ ‘Money for Nothing’ by Dire Straits - used by a charity organisation! Show me yours! 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 Rock on, fellow music lovers! 👑🧡 #Marketing #Soundtrack #Advertising #Music #Musings
