📢 Currently in the recruitment and data collection phase! I’ve been sharing strength and balance exercises through the Keep On Keep Up (KOKU) programme, co-created with and for older adults. This phase has been an eye- opener on the importance of creating digital health interventions that are accessible and truely inclusive for diverse ageing communities. If we’re serious about addressing health inequalities, older adults cannot remain invisible. Here are a few ways to start: 1) Disaggreate Age Data: instead of a broad “50+” category, break down age groups to capture diverse needs. 2) Create Age friendly tech: Design technologies with older adults in mind, ensuring usability and accessibility 3) Increase access to Refurbished Divices: more available hardware means more opportunities for connection and learning 4) Foster Tech Learning Opportunities: Offer spaces where older adults can learn and feel empowered in using new technology. I am halfway through the book "2030" by Mauro F. Guillén and one of the key insights I found is the rapid ageing of the global population, particularly in countries like the USA. By 2030, the number of people aged 60 and older is expected to increase dramatically, reaching nearly 1 billion globally. In the USA alone, the 60+ demographic will represent over 20% of the population. This demographic shift highlights an emerging market opportunity in AgeTech—technology solutions designed to cater specifically to the needs of older adults. From healthcare innovations, and independent living assistance, to combating social isolation, there’s a growing demand for tools that enable seniors to maintain quality of life while ageing gracefully. In my quest to find if there are any players in this segment, I came across an age tech startup Papa, It connects older adults with "Papa Pals," who provide companionship, assistance with daily tasks, transportation, and even help with digital literacy. It's a unique blend of human connection and support, helping seniors live independently while staying engaged and cared for. Here’s why it stands out: 1. Customer-Centric Focus: Papa directly addresses senior needs like loneliness and independence, making it invaluable for both seniors and families. 2. Scalable Model: Its gig economy approach allows rapid scaling to meet growing demand without sacrificing quality. 3. User-Friendly Tech: The app is intuitive, ensuring even less tech-savvy seniors can use it with ease. 4. Data-Driven Growth: Leveraging user data to refine services and partnerships with healthcare providers, Papa continues to expand its reach. Families often prefer home-based care, which can influence the demand for in-home care services and caregivers. Addressing social isolation through community-based programs and technology can improve seniors' well-being. + Awareness and Education: Raising awareness about the importance of elderly care and educating families about available services and support options can drive demand for professional care services. A recent study in BMC Geriatrics explores the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) interventions on reducing loneliness and social isolation among older adults.
