Our project has taken a small step forward with the launch of 50 States of Solar, v1.5. At the current state, the purpose of the project is to collect and automatically analyze publicly available solar data from the United States. The first round of development has us grabbing from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Next we'll move onto the various generator queues that are available around the nation. The first tool we've made available based on this data, designed by Devin Giannoni, focuses on national and state level solar, wind, and emission free generation as a part of all electricity generation. The next tool we plan to make available will show off a map of all solar power plants in the US, followed by a map of factories. Then I personally hope to design a product, which will be for sale, which creates a valuation of each individual solar power plant in the nation. Please leave comments, let us know what you'd like to see, or how it should be formatted. Thank you. #datascience #solarpower #renewableenergy #code

Been working on a side project - PV Intel - along with pv magazine Global owner Eckhart Gouras, JD. Please give it a click and give some feedback. Started it because we thought the great #solardata provided by the U.S. Energy Information Administration wasn't being shared well enough to the world. Then kept seeing additional ways to make use of the information sharing. Then realized that we had a great platform - pv magazine - to get this information to the world. The company and tooling has evolved, first focused on #consulting and #communitysolar, to later shift toward a data focus. It'll stick with the data for a bit, before shifting toward taking care of those with questions. Next launch will be 1.6, 1.7, and probably also 1.8 - which will include a map of existing #solarpower plants, and of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) #solarmanufacturing facilities.

Unlike photovoltaic (PV) systems that directly convert sunlight into electricity, solar thermal power systems use mirrors or lenses to concentrate sunlight onto a small area, heating a fluid to produce steam. This steam drives a turbine connected to a generator, producing electricity. The key components of a solar thermal power system include solar collectors, a heat transfer fluid, thermal energy storage, and a power block. These systems offer several advantages, including the ability to generate electricity even when the sun is not shining by using thermal energy storage. They can also be combined with traditional power plants to provide reliable, renewable energy. The belief that renewable energy is inefficient comes from the limitations of early designs. Initial solar panels converted little sunlight into electricity, and early wind turbines had low capacity and poor reliability, making renewables seem less effective than traditional energy sources. Modern engineering has significantly improved efficiency. Today’s solar panels achieve 20-25% efficiency, with advanced designs exceeding 40%. Wind turbines are now larger, more reliable, and generate energy even in low winds, greatly enhancing performance. Advances in grid technology have also boosted renewable integration. Smart grids and energy storage systems reduce energy loss and ensure a stable supply, making renewables a viable and sustainable energy solution.
