According to this logic, number of unicorns should be the criteria to measure progress of any economy. And yes, West bengal (with 0 unicorn) is 5th largest state, ahead of Karnataka (with 40+ unicorns) in GDP terms
Kolkata is the only one in India's largest 6 cities by GDP that has 0 unicorns Kolkata was - India's top industrial center till the 80s - One of the largest stock markets in the 90s - Accessible to top-tier institutes in the 2000s Innovation lacks in India's 3rd largest metro

It truly hurts to see my dear city wither away, and it's clear that we Bengalis are responsible for this situation... Recently, I engaged with a Japanese client eager to expand their logistics operations in India. They sought partnerships with mid-sized Indian logistics companies to form a joint venture. As part of the feasibility study, they requested a dataset of potential clients in metropolitan cities—specifically Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Noticeably absent from their list was Kolkata, a city once considered the capital of India. This omission is not unique to this client. Many foreign entities overlook Kolkata as a strategic business hub. The reason? Governance in this region is often perceived as a joke. As a fellow Bengali, it pains me to witness the ideological and demographic shift among the youth, who seem to prefer free mobile phones from the state over scholarships for further studies. The lack of competition has fostered a toxic work culture in many MSME's and even some big corporations. Work ethics are shaped by a general consensus that complacency is acceptable. The pre-communism era has left Bengalis so complacent that they resist change, content with the same old corrupt and ludicrous ways of governance. If Indian companies are reluctant to invest in this part of the country, why would a foreign entity even consider it? The once-thriving city of Kolkata is now a shadow of its former self, struggling to attract the attention and investment it desperately needs. #Kolkata #Business #Governance #Investment #Logistics #India #EconomicDecline #WorkCulture #YouthEmpowerment

Only state in India to be partitioned twice. Over and above that: -Naxalite insurgency in the 60s -Freight Equalization Policy -Communist Govt who were against all forms of aristrocracy since the 70s -lockouts happened, bandh culture started -they were against modernisation -when B Bhattacharya came and tried to undo their follies, already too late -people elected new govt in 2011, who drove out Indonesian industry & Tatas out of Nandigram and Singur -new govt also did not walk the talk -freebies to their largest vote bank i.e the rural sector who contribute 70% of votes -organized sector is untouched while they contribute 80% to the economy Made sense to the entrepreneurs and businessmen to flock to more welcoming states. And thus the culture followed. Short-sighted political outlook over decades. We, the people of Bengal are only to be blamed.

Good morning, Kolkata! 🌆 We are delighted to bring some amazing news, that is certain to usher in a new age in the tech industry of the state of West Bengal. We finally have the announcement about the expected implementation of two very important policies in the technology sector. 🖋️ At the ICT East 2024, organised by Confederation of Indian Industry, our Information Technology Minister announced that the following major policies will be officially announced in Bengal Global Summit 2025 - 🌟 Semiconductor Policy - Announced earlier this year that the development of a semiconductor policy was underway, it will be officially put in force following Bengal Global Summit 2025. Bolstered by the GlobalFoundries investment in the state, this new policy is aimed at pushing the boundaries of the growth of semiconductor industries in Bengal. 💻 🌟 GCC Policy - Global Capability Centres have seen immense growth in the country, and a dedicated policy of it is crucial to bring the engine in the state itself. ⌨️ We are delighted with this proactive approach that the Government of West Bengal seems to have taken with this, and eagerly await strong results. 🚀 For more such updates keep following the Kolkata IT Hub page, and the hashtag - #kolkataithub 💌 #semicon #semiconductor #semiconindia #chips #semiconpolicy #gcc #gccgrowth #gccpolicy #growth #policy #announcement #techhubs #towardsTier1inIT #kolkata #kolkatabuzz #kolkataithub

While India is growing, Bangalore is bleeding. The whole world is bullish about the Indian growth story, we are doing awesomely well in every field but here is Bangalore, 1. Traffic: 4.8 km from my office to home takes at least 35 minutes 2. Water: We all already know of water crises. 3. Electricity: Even prime areas like HSR, Electronic City, BTM, and Indiranagar are witnessing power cuts for more than 8-10 hours/day. 4. Metro: Metro works are halted everywhere. 5. Roads: Roads have pathetic conditions and major places. I moved 3 months back, and people here tell me it’s all been happening for the last 1-2 years. While India is growing, Bangalore once known as the Silicon Valley of India is declining. Feels sad about it. #Bangalore #Bangalorebleeding #Bangaloredeclining #india #growth
