As we celebrate the achievement of the Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) in completing the PGDM - GD and PI process for phase 1 eligible candidates, we reflect on the power of collaboration. The process took place at outstation venues, including Delhi, Mumbai, Ranchi, and Kolkata. Mr Bhaskar Bhowani from XISS acknowledged the pivotal role played by team members Raj Agarwal, Avinash Mishra, Diksha Bhatt, Harish P. and Arjun Chakraborty who provided on-site assistance to evaluators. Not only did they contribute, but it was the efficiency of Sourabh Jain, Chintan Patel, Akash Shedge, shantanu sharma, Nikhil Pasalkar, Arpit Choudhary, Kanaya Bhattad, Sakshi Marawar and Smita Auty who played a role in ensuring the seamless operation of the backend processes. As we celebrate this milestone with XISS, we're reminded again of teamwork's transformative power. Together, we've achieved something remarkable. Good morning, Kolkata! 🌆 It is an amazing day to wake up to, although we might be a little late. 😅 Very recently, The Times Of India posted an engaging article about the second resurgence of the IT sector in our beloved #cityofjoy. They have entailed multiple aspects that have led to this, their impacts and now their unquestionable visibility - something that we at Kolkata IT Hub have been reporting on since the first day of our inception. 🚀 Let us highlight a few aspects as reported - 🔶 As reported by multiple commercial real-estate trackers like Knight Frank, Cushman & Wakefield or JLL India, the office absorption reached 1.4 million sqft. in 2022-23. IT exports surged to INR 33,000 crores as well. 🔶 Post-COVID, employee retentivity is what pushed firms primarily to be here in order to relocate employees in a more distributed setup. But what has kept the growth trajectory sustainable is the diverse talent pool of the city and the state in general. Kolkata also recorded high Return-to-Office(RTO) rates. 🔶 Rentals although on the upward curve, have remained comparatively lower here, but as expected, with demand surge they will rise. Companies will be more in competition to setup their bases here. 🔶 The government's initiatives for vision projects such as Bengal Silicon Valley or the Fintech Hub have been even greater modals of investments. They also represent an ecosystem of proactivity. A lot more reasons can be projected but what is certain now is the visibility and sustained nature of growth. Kolkata IT Hub thanks every firm who have kept their faith in the city, and keep reaffirming it through expansions. It's incredible to witness growth and development. This is precisely what India needs. Currently, cities like Delhi NCR and Bangalore are overwhelmed by crowds, and residents are struggling to access basic necessities like clean water and pure air. If big IT companies shift their focus to tier 2 cities, it can help alleviate the mass migration to big cities and enable people to secure jobs in their nearest city, improving overall quality of life.

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ ALARMING DATA 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 The data is worrying for people living and working in Kolkata. The drop in new companies shows a slowdown in business growth and job opportunities. Some possible reasons for this are: 1. Economic and Policy Issues: Kolkata has been slow to adopt business-friendly policies, and government support for attracting investments is lacking. Complicated processes make it hard for startups to grow. 2. Weak Infrastructure: Unlike cities like Bengaluru or Hyderabad, Kolkata may not have the modern infrastructure needed for IT and corporate businesses. 3. Talent Moving Away: Many young professionals are leaving Kolkata for cities with better job opportunities, such as Bengaluru and Hyderabad. 4. Focus on Traditional Industries: Kolkata is known for industries like jute and tea but has not focused enough on developing IT and tech sectors, which are driving growth in other cities. Good morning, Kolkata! 🌆 Another significant policy change in the IT policy of West Bengal is soon to be undertaken as reported by various news outlets - 🔶 In order to keep pace with competition from other states and boost West Bengal's IT sector, the daily working hour limit has been raised to 9 hours. 🔶 This is with the intent to benefit the IT companies in the state, and make West Bengal more financially competitive in terms of client contracts. With 9 hours a day, the industry will benefit in terms of billing their clients, helping them financially, and enabling them to compete with other states that offer similar working hour flexibility. 🔶 “It would make Bengal more attractive for IT companies and increase employer flexibility. It also formalises the prevalent practices in the industry,” said Arnab Basu, advisory leader, at PwC India.
