The INDIAN ECONOMY continues to defy all odds and grow at a steady rate this year. The World Bank has also raised India's GDP forecast for FY 25 to a whopping 7% making us the fastest growing major economy! This is a great time to be in India, invest in India as well as leverage on our talent pool. We are currently home to 1500+ GCCs, with an additional 500+ to be set up over the next 3-5 years. Interestingly, apart from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune and Gurugram, there are GCCs also setting up shop in cities like Indore, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneshwar, Vishakhapatnam, Coimbatore and leveraging on the local talent in these locations. All this action also comes with creating niches in each of these cities, eg: Hyderabad is known for Healthcare GCCs, Pune for Product/Manufacturing GCCs, Ahmedabad for Cybersecurity etc There are definitely more exciting times ahead in this space and I can't wait to see the opportunities that come along! 2024 has been a game-changer for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India, smashing outdated perceptions. The launch of India’s first GCC policy at the Bengaluru Tech Summit marked a bold step, with plans to train 1 lakh professionals in cutting-edge tech. Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called the state a global leader in engineering talent and AI professionals. With 875 GCCs, Bengaluru is the GCC capital, contributing $22.2 billion annually. But cities like Hyderabad, Pune, and Chennai, and even tier-II cities like Jaipur and Kochi, are catching up fast. 2024 saw a rise in women leaders in GCCs, reflecting a shift toward diversity and inclusion. Some of the leaders include Optum MD Uma Ratnam Krishnan, HSBC India Global Service Centres MD Mamatha Madireddy, Siemens Healthineers’ executive director Kalavathi G V, Merck Group IT Centre chief Anuprita Bhattacharya, and 7-Eleven’s SVP of shared services Jennifer Goschke, among others. GCCs are innovation powerhouses, investing heavily in AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, offering salaries 30% higher than IT companies.
