Is agriculture ripe for robots? 🤖 According to FAO, worldwide food production will have to increase by 70 percent until 2050 to accommodate the worldwide demand. Ergo: Farmers need to produce more, with less inputs while leaving more of our natural world intact – and precision is key to achieving this goal. We don’t know what the future looks like. But is quite conceivable that #robots will be one piece of the puzzle to help increase the productivity of farming in a more sustainable and environmentally compatible way. While we're not talking about robots taking over all of #agriculture tomorrow, it's clear that the potential of automation, digital tools and data are opening up new ways to drive innovation in farming. Read this Financial Times article for some future perspectives on robotic agriculture.

Tulip selection robots are becoming increasingly common in the Netherlands' bulb fields, aiming to identify and eliminate sick plants to prevent infections among neighboring crops. Developed by H2L Robotics, the Selector 180 is the world's first autonomous tulip selection robot, using AI and GPS to pinpoint ill tulips. Although still improving, these robots alleviate the labor-intensive task for farmers, operating 24/7 and potentially reducing the need for seasonal labor. Despite advancements, complete automation may take several more years as robots continue learning and refining their abilities. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eVMxBQde

Brandon Contino and Dan Chi co-founded Four Growers to create robots for harvesting greenhouse crops, living in a greenhouse for a year to develop their technology. Their robots use stereo cameras and robotic arms to autonomously harvest ripe produce, starting with tomatoes. Contino, initially interested in neural prosthetics, shifted to addressing agricultural labor shortages, inspired by water scarcity research. for more details https://lnkd.in/gepkmirz #techwithanas #technology #artificalintelligence #Amazon #robotics #climate #technews #fvchargers

Unifrutti Chile Automation in agricultural sector 🥳🫡 It's fascinating to see this innovative approach in the agriculture sector. It undoubtedly aids countries where labor costs are high, enhancing efficiency and productivity. However, this technology remains out of reach for small and medium-scale farmers, as well as nations with large populations. This disparity could lead to monopolies, where businessmen lease large tracts of land from farmers, consolidate them, and invest in food production, potentially increasing unemployment. This technology works exceptionally well for farmers with vast landholdings and businesses looking to dominate the production space. However, it's crucial to consider the broader impact. Kudos for the tech advancement, but I hope there is ongoing research to deploy cost-effective solutions that assist small-scale farmers, reduce food wastage, and protect the employment of millions who currently depend on traditional farming methods.
