The history of coffee dates back to the 9th century in Ethiopia, where legend says a goat herder discovered the stimulating effects of coffee beans. From there, coffee spread to the Arabian Peninsula, particularly Yemen, where it became an essential part of daily life by the 15th century. Coffee houses, known as "qahveh khaneh," became popular in the Middle East, serving as hubs for social interaction, intellectual discussion, and business. By the 17th century, coffee had spread to Europe, where it gained popularity despite initial resistance from religious authorities. Coffee houses flourished across major European cities, influencing culture and politics. The cultivation of coffee expanded to the Americas, particularly in Brazil, which became the world’s largest coffee producer. Today, coffee is a global commodity, integral to daily life in many cultures. We will be adding a number of educational pieces to our project, www.DistributorPost.com, over the coming weeks. This publication will be a one stop shop for all importers, distributors and salespersons in the alcoholic beverage industry. In the Coffea genus, there are AT LEAST 129 varieties 🌿 Coffea arabica makes up approximately 70% of the world's coffee production and is the only species we source at Counter Culture Coffee. But to say we simply buy arabica coffee is not specific enough. It would be similar to us saying we buy apples, but not distinguishing between the many types out there. Another weekly round-up for last week (a day late because yesterday was so busy! More about that next week!) This one is sponsored by the delicious cardamom* bun in the photo, from one of the best coffee shops in Bristol, Radical Roasters in Easton. I couldn't resist starting it before I took a photo. 👩🏫 I shadowed a former colleague on her ECT (Early Career Teacher) visits to schools as part of my training for a quality assurance role with the appropriate body. 💬 I had a meeting with the local Teaching School Hub to discuss some ongoing work. 🤝 I went to a 'Together for SEND' conference hosted by Bristol Parent Carers, and attended some fantastic workshops. 💻 I did some online facilitation for one of the NPQs. 💗 I went as a guest to a ball! Think Paris is Burning, not ballgowns. 💭 We had some really challenging and important conversations as a research team around participation, race, perceptions, how our own identities shape this work and how to avoid harm. 🍉 I went to a rally at a local weapons factory, who are making parts for the weapons being used in Gaza. They have more than one site in Bristol, and that's really shocking to me. I don't want to stay quiet about this happening in my city. A mix of personal and professional in the same list this week, because it's sometimes hard to separate the two when I'm so focused on doing things that align with my values: community, collaboration and co-production. *That's right, cardamom. My controversial opinion is that (along with ketchup) cinnamon buns are vastly overhyped and actually not that great. I'll eat one if it's the only option, but I'd rather have something else. This bun used cardamom instead and was *amazing*. A reminder to me and all of you that sometimes doing things slightly differently is the best choice. What's your favourite sweet bakery item? Let me know in the comments. Anyone saying cinnamon bun will be blocked.** **Joking.*** ***Probably. #Training #Collaboration #Research #SEND

The Jollof Rice War: Nigeria vs. Ghana - A Delicious Battle of Spices 🍚🔥 If you're familiar with West Africa, you’ve probably heard of The Jollof Rice War—and no, this isn’t a historical battle. It’s a lively, ongoing feud between two proud nations: Nigeria and Ghana, each claiming their version of jollof rice is the best. 🔥 On one side, you've got the bold and spicy Nigerian jollof, packed with heat and smoky goodness that hits you with a memorable kick. On the other, the smooth, subtle flavor of Ghanaian jollof that’s all about balance and harmony, where the spices dance without trying to set your mouth on fire. Who wins? Well, that depends on who you ask. 😄—and which kitchen you’re standing in! The rivalry plays out in homes, parties, and, of course, all over Twitter (X) (#JollofWars, anyone?). What’s clear is that this delicious debate is more than just food—it’s about culture, pride, and identity. But honestly, why argue when we can enjoy both? 😋 So, whether you’re #TeamNigeria or #TeamGhana, one thing’s for sure: Jollof rice is always a win. Which version are you rooting for in this flavorful war? Let’s hear your thoughts! Check out my latest blog post, where I explore both sides of the Jollof War and why it’s so much more than just rice! 🍽️ 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dY5qVkDq 🍴 #JollofWars #FoodCulture #AfricanCuisine #TeamJollof

First smiling VDB tanks on Greek market In a liquid food market that is under pressure due to lower demand, we have taken the opportunity to further develop new markets. In the past 10 years we autonomously developed into a leading position on the African continent. Connecting the European market with the African continent is crucial in order to offer our customers a EMEA covering network. Important in that, is to increase our position in the Mediterranean markets in order to close the geographical gap between Europe and Africa. Therefore we convinced David Tantalos to join our Sales team as Commercial Manager Mediterranean in order to head this expansion and connect the Med with our main markets. As a first step: today we successfully delivered the first tanks of edible oils into the Upfield factory in Piraeus and by doing so we have opened up the Greek market. Great work by Davide Charalampos Tantalos and Floyd Schwiebbe on succesful trial deliveries. Well done!! Interested in discussing ways to Supply Change your Bulk flows in the Mediterranean market? Please reach out to David or our sales team. #SupplyChangerinBulk

Coffee prices have reached another high just this week as seen on Finviz💰📈 It seems coffee buyers have to adapt to a new era of pricing, not just a crisis, as high coffee prices have emerged as a lasting reality 👀 Coffee is a climate sensitive plant falling victim to the changing climate. We also currently rely on one type of coffee bean, Arabica, for over 70% of world’s coffee supply. With over 3 billion cups of coffee consumed every day, and demand expected to triple over the next 20-30 years, we’re increasingly facing supply pressures and deficits. With our love for coffee growing, we need alternatives. With Morrow - The Coffee of Tomorrow we are on a mission to provide a product where people don’t have to compromise on taste or price, all whilst supporting a more sustainable future for coffee. One where future generations can enjoy the brew we all love ☕️🌱.
