Globally, we are responding to stories.
Fake. Real. Who knows?
Most stories are veering towards victimhood and fear.
It's an easy place to go to. Especially when volatility is being used deliberately to shake up the collective.
Fear and uncertainty is often induced on a mass scale, to inject angry groupings or mob behaviour.
To divide people neatly into friends and enemies. Today this can be more easily done through digital collectives and platforms. And with hardlined right and wrong agendas and stories.
In peace times, we are able to tune into moderation, nuance, where the 'truth' normally resides. When pushed into survival mode, mostly due to weak livelihood dynamics, fear of job losses, we can be easily tilted into panic.
Mobs and fear driven groups rely less on brain processing, and are pushed to act from the limbic brain.
Othering, labelling, ganging up, isolating minorities is a self protective but harmful process, used effectively over generations.
It is difficult to stay neutral, to not be pulled into narratives and counter narratives, and know that what is hyped and hooplaed is strategic and timely, or hyper emotional.
Poking, stoking, albeit harmlessly, via social media is on, on a mass scale to engender division. The actual heroing of few events on breaking news, to keep audiences hooked with one disaster after another. Each juiced for maximum emotive effect. A scared, wrongly informed collective is easily used for mass action and to initiate war like scenarios.
While neutrality feels impossible, it is important to steer clear of the fight. Hear both sides. Know they are differently motivated.
Some battles become an endless loop and can turn into more aggressive forms as the narratives, counter attacks rise in pitch, fuelled by media and material motives.
Look at everything and withdraw as and when necessary. There is no reasoning with certain energies right now, where hurt, imagined or otherwise, is being deliberately manufactured with due historical and geographic referencing, when facts are absolutely unverifiable.
Mistrust is being manufactured on a mass scale.
Misunderstandings, misrepresentation used as tools to malign. From various sides.
We are all caught in a collective maelstrom where blame is our natural go to, as we navigate times of uncertainty and transition, post global stress events (covid, climate change) that our bodies are adjusting to.
We need the peaceful majority. People who still hope, plan for a better future, and move towards it. While this seems heartless, it is not cold, but just the bedrock of endurance, through time.
