"Acoustics as a Habit." As you may know, our Managing Director, Ganesh Gurpur, delivered an insightful talk on "The Importance of Acoustics in AV Setups" at InfoComm Asia 2024 in Bangkok on July 18. While the full session ran for 25 minutes, we understand it may be lengthy for some. Therefore, we will be sharing key excerpts from his presentation. What's the difference between an acoustic camera and an acoustic monitor? Both devices use microphone arrays and optical cameras for sound source visualization and localization. An acoustic camera is a handheld device that captures sound waves at a specific point in time, while an acoustic monitor is a fixed device that captures sounds continuously. Unlike the acoustic camera’s instantaneous snapshot, the monitor can help you understand noise trends and patterns over time. In a dynamic city environment, for example, the sound landscape varies greatly between different times and days. The snapshot on Saturday at 10PM will be completely different than that of Monday at 2PM. That’s why, to get good insights, you’d want to have a continuous stream of data that captures the nuances and fluctuations in sound throughout the day, night, and every moment in between. The choice between an acoustic camera and an acoustic monitor depends on your application and goals, whether you want to stay flexible in localizing sounds or need continuous monitoring. Better late than never. Here's our proposal for Nemo’s next-level performance: a floating spinner in a magnetic field. Not sure if this thing can be scaled and how many amps are needed though. Safety might also be an issue. Joking aside, we are impressed and proud of this year's ESC winner from Switzerland! They are proof and an inspiration that even an individual (or a small company) can make a difference. Also check temperature increase during a 3-minute cycle and add fins for cooling (if needed). In the animation below, you can observe the current distribution (sorry, removed legend) in the aluminium spinner over approx. 1 second (50 Hz signal) - the spinner is moving in z-direction and will eventually rest at a certain z location (if you wait long enough). Will post more about this case as soon as we find some time ;-) Maybe somebody can print a spinner for real-time tests?
