Arun Rai and George Marakas PhD at the #ECIS2024 in Cyprus: - Envisage your future contributions in the context of the upcoming disruption of your industry or field. - Find the environment that looks the way you want to look. - Don’t lie to yourself (about what you really want and what you are good at). - Dance with the guy who brought you into the dance (i.e., exercise loyalty). - If you work across disciplines, is your desk where your heart is? - You want to be known at a field, not a topic level. - Remember that value is relational when you think about your contribution. - It is on you to communicate how assumptions must be changed. - Every kick (i.e., deliverable) matters. - Invest in fundamentals (e.g., rigorous work practices and deep understanding of the knowledge space you wish to extend). Happy to participate in MoreThan Capital (MTC) meeting of HBS AMP Alumni community. There were lots of takeaways from these two amazing days in Istanbul, but I will limit myself at mentioning three that stayed with me: 🌏 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 are the geopolitics of AI, BRICS expansion, China dynamics, Asia acceleration, race for global talent, higher interest rates, 2024 global elections, and the war in Ukraine and Gaza. ✨ 𝟱 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽: don’t wait for the right moment; execution is king, not ideas; speed is your biggest asset; work on your strengths, not your weaknesses; and don’t believe your own PR. 👥 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗜 (𝗿)𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲. No 1 potential obstacle is the company culture. More specifically, that the company culture doesn’t yet recognize the need for AI. Therefore, it is essential for executives to have the right digital literacy themselves to tackle AI (to be able to answer where do you start & where do you stop), as well as to democratize learning related to AI for everybody in the organization. It is imperative to understand that our jobs will not be taken by AI, but by somebody who knows how to use AI😉 Congratulations & thanks to our MTC partners Caroline C. Kracht (she/her), Dmitri Zaitsev, Guillermo Ruiz, Onnie Wong and Will Moore for organizing this great MTC reunion in Istanbul. Dear global entrepreneurs and enablers in the tech space attending #CES2025, we are enthusiastic to meet you, learn about your products, and tinker how to enhance our tech solutions together for the world. We are Sohaara (ex Fujn), a platform that syncs work in the form of jobs, freelance, and entrepreneurship with skills required for it. We designed the platform to serve the peculiar needs of women at work but our ecosystem ended up suitable for everyone. We are able to attend CES 2025 thanks to Ali Seddiki and his team at Moroccan Investment and Export Development Agency - AMDIE who invited us to exhibit at the #AfricaPavilion inside #CES2025. We are grateful for his invitation and humbled to represent the Moroccan and African innovation in tech at a global stage. And where better to do this than CES, one of the largest tech conferences in the world! We are not a common startup. We emerged from the needs of women. We are 100% tech with 100% C-suite women team. This is just to make a statement and not because I do not hire men. The men in my team would validate this. I, by design, hired a heavyweight woman CTO to remove any stereotype that women do the talk and men do the tech. We are fortunate to have Wathsala Wickramapathirana lead our tech after a proven journey leading tech teams and building robust products at #Padiant, #PayPal and others. She will be with me at CES exploring all what is possible for us to augment the magic in Sohaara. Our core belief is that technology solutions approach perfection when they mold around the messiness of human life. This messiness that makes us humans and makes life so desired. With that in mind, we are curious, everyday, to learn about tools that will make our solution one inch closer to filling the holes in the work-skill-income-lifestyle quadrant. Why? because if we get it right, we will enable dignified and fulfilled lives for millions of women, youth, and all people with various life circumstances.
