Many talks were given by major XR players, and three of the biggest announcements on this first day came from Snapchat, Niantic and Meta 📣 👻 Snap Inc. has officially launched Lens Studio 5.0 with a Gen AI suite. We've been using it in Beta for a while, but now it's fully integrated into the Lens Studio app. The GenAI Suite unlocks custom asset and effect creation while enhancing Lens production. Powered by proprietary SnapML technology, this suite of tools allows you to generate ML Face Effects, Immersive ML, 3D assets, and much more. 👩💻 Niantic, Inc. launched Niantic Studio and transitioned 8th Wall from a code-only interface to an intuitive real-time visual editor. Just finished watching Meta Connect 2024 – and I have to say, it was a breath of fresh air! 🎉✨ Unlike the typical tech events overloaded with buzzwords and "AI-this" or "AI-that," Meta's approach stood out by showcasing a true mix of innovation, from cutting-edge hardware and new form factors to immersive experiences, LLMs, and AI-powered tools that felt purposeful. 🚀🤖 The standout for me was the Meta Quest 3 and the Project Orion AR glasses. 🥽🌌 The demos highlighted how the integration of AI and mixed reality can seamlessly blend the digital and physical worlds, opening up new possibilities for how we interact, work, and create. 🌐✨ One thing I truly appreciated was that Meta didn't just focus on technology for technology's sake. They brought forward practical use cases, whether it’s integrating multimodal AI, real-time translations, or building a natural extension of your workspace through XR. These are real-world impacts that go beyond the hype! 🌟💼 However, as exciting as all this is, there’s one thing I hope Meta will keep at the forefront, privacy and data management. A big promise for the future, but no consumer release date—patience required. Quest 3S Headset: A more affordable mixed-reality option at $299. Good for entry-level users, but Meta’s rapid discontinuation of older models (Quest 2, Quest Pro) may make current users think twice about upgrading. The Quest 2 still works well! My bet: Both devices will bring the next 10 million users into the XR space. Engaging but potentially overwhelming for social experiences.
