Did you know that I work as a horticulture consultant? The main business I work with is Ozbreed, but I'm a gun for hire to any reputable business that doesn’t compete in the same markets. I provide horticultural support for landscape architects, growers, retailers, and the general public. I'd love to also consult for landscape construction crews (mainly in Brisbane), and quality garden/horticulture/landscape/nursery brands that make good products or offer good services for the industry or the public. Use me to make sure your marketing team gets their facts right, to ensure you're planting the right plant in the right place, or to troubleshoot horticultural issues. I write articles for print advertising and SEO, I create webinars for industry conferences, I liaise with social media managers, I help landscape architects specify the right plants for the right places, I help nurseries solve plant health problems, and I assist with speaking effectively to industry professionals who can detect nonsense from a mile away. I'm not a specialist in any one area. My talent is bringing together disparate parts of the industry, as well as an expansive understanding of the art and science of horticulture, to help your organisation increase expertise, authority, and trustworthiness, both online and offline. You can have a look at my "About" section to get a snapshot of my career highlights, and get in contact via LinkedIn or email at hello@plantsgrowhere.com.

Growing your LinkedIn profile effectively involves optimizing your presence, building meaningful connections, and engaging consistently. Here’s how you can do it: 1. Optimize Your Profile: Professional Photo: Use a high-quality, professional-looking photo where you're dressed appropriately for your industry. Headline: Craft a compelling headline that reflects what you do and what value you offer. Avoid generic titles like “Student” or “Job Seeker” and opt for something more specific, e.g., “Field Service Specialist | Botany Graduate | Environmental Consultant.” Engaging Summary: Write a concise, engaging summary that highlights your skills, experience, and what you're looking for (as we crafted earlier). Experience & Skills: List all relevant experiences, including internships and projects, and detail your achievements in each role. Add key skills related to your field to help recruiters find you. Endorsements & Recommendations: Request endorsements for skills from colleagues or professors, and seek recommendations to add credibility. 2. Build a Network: Connect with Industry Peers: Add colleagues, classmates, mentors, and people from your field or related industries. Customize your connection request with a personal message. Join Groups: Participate in LinkedIn groups relevant to your profession (e.g., botany, environmental consultancy, project management) and contribute to discussions. Engage with Alumni Networks: Connect with alumni from your university who are in the same or related industries. Alumni are often more open to mentoring or referring fellow graduates. 3. Post and Share Valuable Content: Share Industry News: Post about trends in your industry (environmental science, project management, etc.) to show that you are informed and active in your field. Write Articles: Publish thoughtful posts or articles on LinkedIn about topics in your domain, such as environmental challenges, your fieldwork experience, or technological innovations in botany. Engage with Others: Like, comment, and share content from others in your network. Meaningful engagement increases your visibility and helps build relationships. 4. Consistent Activity: Stay Active: Regularly post updates, share insights, or celebrate achievements (completing a project, certification, or field study). Regular activity keeps your profile in the feeds of your connections. Participate in Discussions: Comment on posts or discussions in your field to show your expertise and connect with more people. 5. Showcase Certifications and Skills: Add Certifications: If you’ve completed any courses or certifications (e.g., environmental impact assessments, project management, programming courses), showcase them on your profile. Demonstrate Skills with Projects: Highlight projects that demonstrate your practical skills, whether they’re research projects, fieldwork, or tech-related initiatives.

𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢, 𝙢𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙅𝙚𝙛🎤 Curious to know who works at Royal Brinkman? Meet Jef van der Burg, our experienced project coordinator with a passion for precision and innovation in the horticultural sector. 𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙚, 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪? I'm Jef van der Burg, a proud resident of Lier. My father was a grower. I used to visit the Royal Brinkman store when I was younger. By the time I was 18, my brother and I already had our first garden. I was still attending horticultural school at the time. I spent about 14 years as a gardener in De Lier. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙩𝙮𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙤𝙮𝙖𝙡 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪? It's quite diverse. From ordering materials to maintaining contact with clients, my role is primarily to ensure projects run smoothly. 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢? I've been working here as a project coordinator since June 2023. I oversee various projects, primarily solar panel installations and silos and pumps. Once a project is sold, I ensure it progresses smoothly and is successfully completed. 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙜𝙪𝙚𝙨 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪? I hope I'm friendly and always up for a joke. And as someone who always thinks along with colleagues. 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩? The horticultural sector is constantly evolving, it's a progressive market. I understand the language of growers well. Additionally, installations fascinate me greatly. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙟𝙤𝙗? I prefer being out visiting growers. Helping clients with the perfect installation and smarter energy use is what I enjoy the most. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙫𝙚𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙧𝙪𝙞𝙩? Bananas, asparagus and Brussels sprouts. Too bad these are exactly seasonal products. 𝘿𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛? Sure! When you've been a gardener for 14 years, you've developed that. And I also enjoy being busy in my own backyard. #meettheteam #teamroyalbrinkman #royalbrinkman

There has long been an intuitive sense that gardens and gardening are both good for us and good for promoting sustainable environmental stewardship. Despite the usual scientific caveat that more research is needed, this sense is supported by an expanding evidence base. "Viewed as socio-ecological systems, gardens are sites of horticultural management that provide an interface between people and the natural cycling of water and nutrients by plants, fungi, bacteria and archaea. Gardens are also places that can promote physical, mental and social health, through opportunities for connection with ourselves and others." http://bit.ly/3RtUHcQ Alongside expanding this evidence base, this report also identifies the need to grow the green collar skills base in horticulture and environmental science. The vital capacity to turn the evidence into action. #horticulture #gardening #sustainability #environmentalhorticulture #health #wellbeing #soilhealth #climatechange #water #people #plants
