This may be hard to believe, but since 2011, I have actually made SLATERSVILLE so far on $349K raised. That’s an average of $27K a year. A normal budget for a historical docuseries of this size goes well into the millions. For example, in an NPR interview, Ken Burns shared that his budget for “Vietnam” was $30 million over 10 years. I always cite this example with a chuckle by saying, “Well, I got the 10 years.” And of course I do other jobs under my company Breaking Branches Pictures. No one today can live reasonably on that figure alone. As you can imagine, for several years and still today, SLATERSVILLE relies heavily on volunteers, interns, grants, private donors and in-kind contributions to get it all done. The biggest game changer for the series getting done has been a combination of Covid and the massive generosity of private “angelic” donors from afar landing out of the blue, loving the work they had previewed and choosing to be a part of it. That plus every dollar everyone ever kicked into this thing from around the world, a passion for storytelling about the unknown, and the “let’s do it” energy my team and I have exemplified. That's the truth. And now, to have two Emmy nominations and one win, a Gold Telly award, 3 film festival awards and more is incredibly gratifying… Especially when the best of the series, IMHO, hasn’t even been seen yet. It’s also no secret that it has taken longer to complete these episodes than we would like, but these delays - discovering new content, working with the timing of families losing loved ones, additional filming and more - have made SLATERSVILLE so much better than we have ever anticipated. By the end of each episode, I always see that the final product has been worth the wait. NOW as we reach the milestone of completing Season 2, episodes 6, 7 and 8, I humbly ask for your support again. We must raise $25K as soon as possible to complete Season 2 and get it ready for FilmHub, which will get the series up onto a variety of streaming channels - possibly Amazon, Apply TV or more. Once we do that, we will complete the entire series with Season 3, episodes 9, 10 and 11, to air in 2025. You can visit our page below, or to make a donation through one of our three nonprofit sponsors, I invite you to message me. We are always grateful for whatever we receive. Thank you!! https://lnkd.in/ebnkMGx www.firstmillvillage.com

🎥 Get Your organisation on TV This Holiday Season! 🎥 The holiday season is a fantastic time to highlight the work of your charity or purpose-driven business, as regional broadcasters are often seeking feel-good stories with a Christmas angle. If you’re planning a festive event get in touch with the relevant BBC and ITV regional teams! 🎅🎁 💡 Tips for Success: ✅ Tactical Timing: Keep in mind that in the lead up to the Christmas period, short lead media stockpile features to use between Christmas and New Year. ✅ Prep spokespeople: Line up charity representatives and key individuals who are happy to share their story on camera. Personal accounts bring the work to life. ✅ Share clear logistics: Make it easy for broadcasters by sharing all the event details, what they can expect to see, and who’s available for interviews. A clear, compelling pitch makes all the difference! Last year, we helped Music in Hospitals & Care land multiple broadcast reports, boosting awareness, donations, and traffic! Ready to boost your organisation’s profile, showcase its work, and make an impact? Now’s the time! #CharityPR #FeelGoodNews #publicrelations #charitysector #charitycomms #businessforgood #purposedrivenbusiness #pr

Ours is an industry that gives so much to society & indeed is incredibly rewarding for those who get the chance to enjoy being a part of it. However, it’s also an industry that places enormous stress & pressure on its community. For many the idea of having any semblance of a work/life balance when working in film & TV is antithetical. With this in mind, the work of the The Film and TV Charity has never been more crucial. They are the one organisation within our industry who are fully focussed on stepping in to help our colleagues when they are struggling. Whether it be mental health, financial assistance or advice & guidance, they work tirelessly to offer support to those who need it most. But without our support & donations they cannot do their job & without the work they do, our industry won’t survive, let alone thrive. Donate today & help make a difference. #MentalHealthAwareness #SupportTheIndustry #SupportEachOther
A Call for Compassion in a Time of Crisis 🎬❤️ (PLEASE REPOST) As someone who has spent years working in the film and TV industry, I’ve witnessed first-hand the passion, dedication, and creativity that drives our work. But I’ve also seen the darker side—the stress, the pressure, and the all-too-common reality of mental health struggles, financial instability, and job insecurity that many in our community face. Right now, the UK’s film and TV industry is grappling with a crisis. Mental health challenges are on the rise, with so many feeling isolated, unsupported, and overwhelmed. The economic uncertainty, coupled with fluctuating work, has created a state of financial precarity for many, leaving countless individuals at risk. This is where the The Film and TV Charity steps in. As an organisation dedicated to supporting the people who make this industry what it is, the charity provides critical services such as mental health support, financial assistance, and guidance to those who need it most. Their work has never been more important. But to continue this vital mission, we need your help. If you’re able to, I encourage you to consider making a donation—whether it’s a small contribution or a larger one. Every penny counts and goes directly to supporting the people who make our industry possible. This is a time when we need to come together and show that, as a community, we care deeply for the wellbeing of each other. Please join me in supporting the Film and TV Charity. Let’s make sure that no one in our industry has to face these challenges alone. Together, we can create a future where support, stability, and compassion are within reach for everyone in the film and TV industry. 🙏 Donate today and make a difference. Thank you for your generosity and for standing with our community at this critical time. 💙 #FilmAndTVCharity #MentalHealthAwareness #SupportTheIndustry #FilmIndustry #TVIndustry #Charity #Donate #TogetherWeCan #SupportEachOther BBC BBC News BBC Studios Banijay UK Fremantle UK All3Media Sky Sky News Sky Studios Channel 4 Channel 5 Warner Bros. Over the last 6 years, our film challenge has advanced the careers of hundreds of women and non-binary filmmakers. We give filmmakers the opportunity to collaborate with a new network, access the best equipment, produce high-end material, gain credits, and get into festivals. In other words, we remove the financial barriers so that women and nonbinary filmmakers can focus on telling their stories and advancing their careers. It has never been easy to make this film challenge free for participants. It takes months of planning, resource gathering, volunteer training, and more. Now more than ever, we need community support to make this film challenge happen. Diversity, equity, and inclusion programs are under siege. There are lawsuits targeting these initiatives; companies are worried about sponsoring these programs; and entire DEI departments and budgets are getting cut. In a post-strike world, everyone is tightening their budgets, and equity is not making the cut. We are not going to let Hollywood backslide. Equity is not a trend; our lives depend on it. Already, Western Digital, Cinelease, and The Tremaine Foundation lent their support to the film challenge, but we need to raise $20,000 this week in order to continue our rollout. We are committed to hosting our film challenge this October, which means our applications are set to open at the end of July. In just a few short weeks, we will need to know that our funding is secure so that we can bring this program to our community. Whether you’re a past participant who wants this opportunity to be accessible to future participants or you simply believe in this mission, now is the time to make a donation. Will you be a part of this movement? Please make a tax-deductible donation today! https://lnkd.in/e7Tm5G-Y

The charity sector understands the power of longer TV spots to convey their heartfelt narratives. With 73 points more invested in 60-second ads and 48 points for 90-second slots, compared to other sectors, it’s clear that brevity is not the goal. The industry’s preference steers clear of the fleeting 10 and 20-second spots in the majority of cases. Why? Because emotive messages require time to unfold, to touch hearts, and to inspire action. Longer ads serve as an ‘anchor’ in the viewers’ memory, enhancing recall and strengthening the connection with the cause. They’re not just ads; they’re stories that linger, resonate, and motivate long after the screen fades to black. The E2AC Impact Assessment Scale measures the impact of "social impact entertainment." It allows filmmakers to report tangible social impact to their audience, investors, and supporters. How it works: 1. Screening: You can screen your content anytime, anywhere. 2. Provide the IAS link to your audience. 3. Get results: E2AC will provide you with an exported spreadsheet of your results (without personal information).
