Here is a HUGE hiring mistake made by most CPG companies. Brands hire sales people without considering a crucial skill. In my opinion, more important than experience. What experience do they have navigating distributors, specifically UNFI and KeHE Distributors. These are massive multi billion dollar companies with their own eco systems. Here are some of the issues that come up with a lack of distributor experience. - item accepted by buyer but take 6-9 months to get in shelf.... or not at all. - zero support from distributor sales teams selling your product. - massive deductions that are not pre planned. - inability to communicate actual pricing to buyer. - living at the will of the distributor. If your sales person has extensive experience working with a distributor or even better yet has worked at one, these problems become so much simplier. Relationships within those ecosystems matter and they take years to build. #cpg #retail #distributor
