Cervical disk replacement surgery is done to reduce nerve compression and preserve motion at the affected vertebrae. The heel slide exercise is primarily used for improving flexibility, mobility, and strength in the knee joint after surgery. It's a common rehabilitation exercise recommended after several types of surgeries. Here are the main uses and situations in which heel slide exercises are beneficial: 1. Knee Surgery Rehabilitation: Heel slides are often prescribed after knee surgeries such as total knee replacement or ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction. The exercise helps in gently increasing the range of motion and decreasing stiffness in the knee joint. 2. Arthroscopic Knee Surgery: Following arthroscopic knee surgeries, which are less invasive, heel slides can aid in recovering the knee’s full range of motion and strength. 3. Hip Surgery: Although primarily a knee exercise, heel slides can also be beneficial after certain hip surgeries, to maintain the range of motion in the lower extremities and prevent stiffness. The exercise involves lying flat with the leg straight, then slowly sliding the heel toward the buttocks, bending the knee as much as tolerated, and then sliding it back.
