As we struggle to follow our course on international and national level, regions are coming to the fore as agents and drivers of positive change. Some are usually well equipped for that new kind of leadership. Such as #BasqueCountry, and here #Gipuzkoa. It's government has been working since 2019 to incorporate a systemic approach to sustainability and climate action. And to deploy its remarkable industrial strength, SME base, technology and biosciences capital and human capital for change that matters towards generating real wealth for the Gipuzkoa's people. And to set an example beyond. Through - Green catalytic investing - Strengthening nature as critical infrastructure - Incentivizing institutional investors to transition away from the high emissions economy - Pioneering new investment vehicles - progressive taxation. What do we learn: - Every region and everyone is an agent of change - Instruments are well defined - Change takes leadership - And institutional support. Thankfully, there are foresighted institutions such as the Climate-KIC and individuals such as Kirsten Dunlop. Thanks for the opportunity to talk about a #NatureBasedEconomy.

Today at the AgriFood Forum in Lithuania, I had the honor of introducing remarkable women from the EWA – Empowering Women in Agrifood program. These women presented their innovative ideas to the jury, reminding me once again that Lithuania’s greatest strength lies in its people. Their passion, determination, and creativity are driving transformation in agrotech, a sector critical to our future. More facts about the talent in Lithuania: 💥 Each year, over 6,000 STEM graduates join the workforce from top universities like Vilniaus universitetas / Vilnius University, Kaunas University of Technology, Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas, and others. These institutions are shaping skills and sharing knowledge that fuel progress. 🌎 Adding to this, returning professionals bring global experience and fresh perspectives, creating a unique blend of expertise and ambition. For the 5th consecutive year, more people are arriving in Lithuania than leaving—a positive immigration wave. 👩🎓 In Lithuania, over 60% of scientists and engineers are women—a proof to factors like sustainable maternity leave policies, a strong educational system, and ecosystem support. After today’s event, I’m hopeful that we can achieve similar milestones in the agro-business sector. Talent is the engine of innovation. Without it, nothing moves. So, what are we doing today to strengthen our talent backbone for the bioeconomy? 🌱💡
