As an agvocate, it's uplifting to see leaders acknowledging the importance of agriculture in our economy. President Tinubu's recent call to state governors and local government councils to embrace agriculture, among other sectors, is a step in the right direction. This initiative has the potential to increase food production, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth. I believe that if our state governments and local councils can allocate more resources to support small-scale farmers, we can significantly reduce poverty and improve the livelihoods of our rural communities. What role do you think individual farmers and agricultural stakeholders can play in supporting this initiative? #abutispinach #Agvocate #AgroDiplomacy 🌾💚🌱

Short blog on our latest paper with Eva Boonaert, Axel Marx & Miet Maertens on how the governance of voluntary sustainability standards matters for their effects on farmers' welfare. Evidensia
📑Read the latest Evidensia blog to learn how different Voluntary Sustainable Standards (VSS) governance mechanisms affect farmer welfare: 👉 https://lnkd.in/eXmTH5ik The authors identify three different VSS governance mechanisms - market-based incentives and capacity building (understood as rewards or “carrots”), and rule enforcement (understood as punishments or “sticks”). Key proposals for standard-setting organizations to enhance VSS governance and promote economic sustainability: 💡 Strengthen both “carrots and “sticks” to boost farmer welfare 📈 Better balance of “carrots” and “sticks” in VSS design 🌱 Consider the varying effects of farmer organizations Authors Eva Boonaert, Charline Depoorter, Axel Marx and Miet Maertens from Bioeconomics | KU Leuven, Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies

Community Engagement Recap: CDFA-NASDA Foundation Socially Disadvantaged Farmers & Ranchers Access to Capital Program 🌱 . Last week, we gathered at the Santa Fe Farmers Market Institute Pavilion to discuss the vital work being done through the CDFA-NASDA Foundation Socially Disadvantaged Farmers & Ranchers Access to Capital Program. This initiative is designed to empower socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers by improving their access to sustainable business capital. . Key Highlights of the Program: . 🌱 Culturally Significant Education: The program is developing a curriculum that teaches agricultural finance in relatable and meaningful terms, ensuring that all farmers and ranchers can build successful operations. . 🌱 Increased Investment in Rural Communities: The program aims to boost investment in rural areas through a combination of technical assistance, private capital leverage, and strategic deal-making. . 🌱 Pilot Projects in Minnesota and New Mexico: Two Project Response Teams will provide on-site, practical support to these communities, offering hands-on assistance from development finance experts. . 🌱 Building Connections: By addressing the unique challenges faced by socially disadvantaged farmers, the program is fostering stronger relationships between these farmers and key financial and agricultural institutions. . Together, we're working to remove barriers, improve participation in USDA programs, and create lasting strategies for access to capital. This collaboration is not just about financing—it's about building a future where all farmers and ranchers have the tools they need to thrive. . . #NMIIC #SustainabilityMatters #RuralDevelopment #SustainableFarming #FarmersSupportingFarmers #ImpactInvesting
