🌴The tropical ecosystems of the Americas are home to some of the most extraordinary wildlife on the planet. These ecosystems harbor the greatest number of species in the world! 🌎🌱 The Amazon contains more fish species than the Nile, Congo and Mississippi combined! 🐠  💚 It is also home to the #jaguar, which is the third biggest cat in the world—after the tiger and the lion—and the largest cat in the Americas! 🐾 🌿On this #NationalWildlifeDay, we give thanks to the #Indigenouspeoples of the #amazonrainforest who protect a large percent of the region’s remaining #biodiversity. 💚   🌴 Indigenous peoples protect nearly 80% of the remaining terrestrial biodiversity on the planet. 🍃 If you could bring back any element of nature from extinction, what would it be and why? A question we explored in a recent lunch and learn at Zebra Growth, and I thought it was too good of a thought provoker not to share with you 😍 Who wouldn’t want to save these cuties….. Sea otters, the furry keystone species of the northern and eastern North Pacific, are bouncing back! These adorable creatures help keep coastal ecosystems balanced by munching on clams and sea urchins, protecting vital kelp forests. Fun fact: their fur is the densest in the animal kingdom, with a million hairs per square inch! Their lush fur meant that sea otters were hunted extensively in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Their numbers dropped to as low as 2,000 individuals. An international ban on hunting along with conservation efforts and reintroduction programmes encouraged the population to grow. Sea otters now occupy two thirds of their former range. But, despite their recovery, sea otters are still endangered. 😞 At Zebra Growth , we look to nature for inspiration in our approach to marketing. Just as ecosystems thrive through balance and diversity, we look to nature's wisdom when developing a Go-to-Market strategy, thinking about the wider ecosystemic impact of our activity, and reflecting deeply about how we can regenerate through our day to day actions. Tawny Eagles are remarkable hunters, soaring high above the savannah and using their sharp vision to spot prey from over a mile away. With powerful talons, they capture their targets with precision and speed. As key predators, they primarily feed on small mammals, reptiles, and birds, maintaining the balance within their ecosystem. Sadly, Tawny Eagles are increasingly threatened by habitat loss and human activities, leading to a concerning decline in their population. Their conservation is crucial for preserving biodiversity and ensuring the health of our ecosystems. Protecting these majestic birds helps maintain ecological balance and supports the rich tapestry of life that sustains our planet. Celebrating International Horseshoe Crab Day🌴🌊 Today, we honor one of nature's most fascinating creatures, a vital marine chelicerate arthropod found in shallow coastal waters. Known as a "living fossil," their existence is crucial for coastal biodiversity. Horseshoe crabs lay millions of eggs, providing food for shorebirds, fish, and other wildlife. Their large shells also support various species like sponges and mussels. However, these creatures face population decline due to overharvesting and habitat loss. for your further knowledge; The largest populations of Atlantic horseshoe crabs inhabit the Delaware Bay, where, from May to early June, they swarm the beaches in an awe-inspiring display. During high tides that coincide with the full moon or new moon, these crabs come ashore in huge numbers to breed and lay their eggs. Female horseshoe crabs dig nests in the sand, burying clusters of about 4,000 tiny, blue-green eggs. Remarkably, each female can lay about 20 egg clusters annually, contributing immensely to the species' continuity and the health of coastal ecosystems. They help control the population of prey species, thereby maintaining the balance between herbivores and the vegetation they feed on.
