D&A people, talking to D&A people about D&A is no longer moving the industry forward! In 2017, I started hosting D&A Leadership events This was long before the 'Driven by Data' ecosystem that we've created existed Ironically, the plan at that time was to create an event series that brought D&A Leaders and Business Leaders together It was obvious, even then, that there was a disconnect However, the reality was, there was very little appetite from "the business" to get involved I spoke to CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CIOs and the general consensus was, and I quote... "Not this data thing again, we've been banging on about this for years now" It could've been bad timing (DS hype) or I could've just spoken to the wrong people But, the responses surprised me Just think about how far back on the maturity and hype curve we were in 2017 compared to today Anyway.... The silver lining was that it became the jumping off point for what has now become the 'Driven by Data' community The D&A community is like no other IMO The willingness to share and learn as a collective all in aid of bettering the industry is evident for all to see And why our 'Driven by Data' community exists and thrives However... 2025 needs to be the year where we do more to bridge the disconnect between D&A and our businesses And that's my goal for 25 We've got some big plans lined up for 2025 at Orbition Group to do this "more and better" Starting with our Q1 event which I'm so excited for Give our page and newsletter a follow to keep up to date with what's going on! #data #analytics #business

If D&A folks don't see value in consulting other D&A folks on making data a strategic priority, doesn't that validate the notion of the data leader not being a change agent? If that's the case, data remains a business-facing role within technology. Is data no longer a topic? Has it been replaced with AI? The conversation has drifted, for sure, and data leaders need to pivot tremendously, but if not them, who?

That’s the reason I no longer visit D&A summits or have unsubscribed from newsletters and unfollowed many LI authors. I don’t get ROI on my time spent consuming their data content/wisdom bites. A very few who actually brings actionable insights or anything food for thoughts, that hasn’t been chewed over and over. On the other hand, I’ve found some cracking profiles in HR (people analytics) supply chain (blockchain) etc whose stories give intriguing insights for data professionals (well, one must be able to spot the data needs in business scenarios, for a starter) that inspires me to think about possible business/user centric solutions (whether it’s on people, process, technology or data side)….and pushes me to learn something new: techniques, framework, standard etc Looking forward to seeing what you have cooked up for 2025…

You're first sentence sums it up. I've long said the D&A world is a giant echo chamber. Simple solution, as a Data Leader don't mention the words data, technology, domains, frameworks or tools when speaking with the business. This will immediately endear yourselves to them. Forget about what's important to you and focus on what's important to them. A few thoughts from my point of view: - Listen more than you talk - Talk their language (not BS jargon) - Focus on solving real Business Problems - Realise that non-technical leaders are better for D&A teams - Accept D&A teams are there to make others look good (that's the value bit) I'll get off my soapbox now...
