In the second part of the webinar “The Art of Horror: Essentials to Inspire Fear in Entertainment Art", Hue Teo demonstrates a character design on the topic, from initial sketch to presentation. Check it out to see the considerations and self-critique that Hue applies along the way on Fundamentals (e.g. proportions), Design (e.g. shape language, silhouette) and Storytelling (in this case, transmitting eerie, uncanny feelings). Parsing the parcel The trouble with being the person asked to create things (unless you’r simply following your inner voice) is that, at some point, it becomes not yours. Two things (and so many more!) to point out here. Firstly, ‘trouble’ is an odd choice, insofar as a job doing creative things versus so many other troublesome demands or means of making a living. It’s actually a privilege, let’s be frank. And secondly, if you’re a commercial artist, what you deliver isn’t really ever yours. It’s the ‘ours’, and latterly ‘theirs’. Which is how it should be. But that makes parting or passing the parcel in question - whichever part of the design-delivery-chain you play a role - a thing. One some seem to struggle with, as witnessed by the dogged attachment to things (like ill-fitting design guidelines, for example) despite better things being obvious (and badly-needed) to everyone else. Or the chagrin of having to hand over the artwork for someone else to follow-through with. If that’s you (I know it would used to have been me), remember the fun playing pass-the-parcel as a kid? Maybe take the next handover / time you get passed-over / have to hand the baton over in the same spirit of generosity. It always pays to pay the karma forward. Ask any cyclist :) #handover #karma #goodwill #project #attachment

When you're not yet working in the game industry, it’s hard to imagine what a game production really looks like. Then, once you start working in production, you think you understand, until you realize that every project is completely unique and every game-making story is different. If, like me, you enjoy hearing about the joys and struggles of making games, you’ll start asking your colleagues or industry veterans. But beyond conversations, there’s a rare gem I want to recommend this week: PsychOdyssey. PsychOdyssey is a documentary created by Double Fine Studio that follows their journey making Psychonauts 1 & 2. It’s 100% available on YouTube, with real footage from the production process, making it a goldmine for anyone interested in the ups and downs of game development. One thing that really stood out to me is how crucial the pre-production phase is. Building things that might not even make it into the final game can be a huge challenge, but it’s also key to finding the right creative direction. You can check out the episodes here : https://lnkd.in/eax2zArJ I highly recommend checking it out. Whether you’re in production, design, or just love games, it’s an insightful look into how a game comes to life. What about you? Do you have any favorite documentaries or resources about game development? I'd love to hear your recommendations!

You’d be correct in assuming that this is not the first Hot Toys sixth-scale figure capturing Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker as he appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. But this is the first Hot Toys sixth-scale figure depicting the character in his Clone Wars era as seen on live-action Star Wars show Ahsoka. The mind reels, sort of how Ahsoka felt when she encountered her former Jedi Master in the World Between Worlds—looking exactly how she remembered him when she was his Padawan many years prior. There’s no price or pre-order link for Hot Toys’ new Ahsoka Anakin Skywalker yet, but the figure does come with some nifty features, including a new head sculpt (including separate rolling eyeballs, so you can adjust his benevolent gaze), a Jedi general outfit, a lightsaber powered by LEDs (as well as the Force, obviously), and more. Check out more pictures while you figure out where you will situate this new Anakin among your ever-growing “Phases of Darth Vader” display. Source link By Nakisisa George
