Great leaders often understand that they don't have to be the smartest person in the room to be effective. Instead, they focus on leveraging the strengths and expertise of those around them. Here are 4 Things You Need to Know about High Yield Youth Investing to Get You Through the Mid-Week Hump 1. HYYI is no different than investing in a bank. Your investment will grow quicker and faster when you master the art & science of strategy execution, financial planning & innovative thinking. Remember to set and track your goals, set high expectations for youth( young people will meet or surpass them) 2. Investing in the enterprise of youth is best left in the hands of social entrepreneurs, BIPOC/Low Income Youth and Global Youth Lovers who quench their thirst for a better future for all through reimagination, collaboration and spiritual growth. 3. HYYI has nothing to do with race and everything to do with race. We can blaze new trails together by cultivating a both/and mindset instead of an either/or mindset. In these uncertain times our best option for the kind of change we want to see is an investment in the next generation. Don’t do it for yourself, do it for your grandchildren and their grand children. Future Forward should be our rallying cry! 4. Sports, the Performing Arts, Entrepreneurship, STEAM and STEM are all Promising Pathways for HYYI. The real joy comes from following what our soul really loves, leveraging our passion, FACING RACE, and understanding true enterprises are complex, complicated, and risky. We will ignite civic action by joining forces, maintaining high standards and continuously striving for excellence. Yesterday was my last day at CityHive Vancouver! I set out to learn about general management in a different context, and the Operations Manager role allowed me to do just that. Whether it was finance, HR, technology or general strategy, I got to touch it all. But, the best part about working at CityHive was hands-down the amazing people. 💖 I learnt so much from my each of my colleagues along the way and can’t thank them enough! I’m particularly grateful to Veronika Bylicki for bringing me onto the team, Rowan Gentleman-Sylvester for being the best ‘work wife’ and boss, Ryan Hocking for bringing more capacity into the Operations team and being a master implementer, and of course, Marlee Poole for taking over the reins. In reflecting on this time, here are a few takeaways that I would like to share: The not-for profit sector is wild. 🤯 It relies heavily on grant funding, philanthropy, donations. I knew this, but never really understood the precarity and unsustainability of this model until managing the finances of an NPO. The impact that not-for profits have in our communities is boundless, yet the resources accessible to them are very much bound. The video “Everyone Deserves a Fair Slice” (https://lnkd.in/gV7pgU87) communicates why very well. In my opinion, CityHive is doing a great job at mitigating this by building out their fee-for-service offerings (Miley Leong 梁伟祺!). Embedding equity into an organization is a more than worthwhile goal, wherein incremental change adds up over time. Operationalizing our organization’s JEDDI (justice, equity, decolonization, diversity, inclusion) values was a significant part of my role, which has led to a lot of personal learning for me in this area. Taking a JEDDI lens to your organization can seem like a daunting task, and changes in big systems won’t happen overnight. Making this investment however is very necessary to meet the current needs of staff teams, participants/customers and the broader social landscape, and starting now (with yourself!) will make all the difference. Equity for the minority benefits us all. ✊ On a personal note, I’m really not meant to work at a desk for eight hours a day, especially in a remote setting. Even doing so for three days a week felt difficult for me! 😓 If this is something that you struggle with balancing, you’re not alone. You can have a huge impact on an organization even under even an under two years. The organization I am leaving today is so different than the one that I joined two years ago. We are levelled up in our systems and are poised for a new era of growth. A couple of years feels short on a resume but impact isn’t linear! 📈 Thank you again to the whole CityHive community❣ I can’t wait to see what this amazing team does to continue supporting and amplifying young peoples voices in our community. From being a program participant to being on the staff team, I will always have fond memories of my time at CityHive. ✨

#LeadershipInFocus: Illuminating the Path Through Change In a world of constant flux and uncertainty, leaders stand as beacons of hope and inspiration, guiding their teams through turbulent waters with grace and resilience. But what sets these leaders apart? It's not just their titles or positions of authority; it's their unwavering commitment to their teams, their ability to inspire action, and their capacity to lead with empathy and integrity. 1.Empowerment and Collaboration: #EmpowerToLead Great leaders understand that leadership is not about being in control, but about empowering others to unleash their full potential. They recognize the strengths and talents of each individual on their team and provide the support and guidance needed for them to thrive. By fostering a culture of collaboration and trust, these leaders create environments where everyone feels valued and heard. 2. Agility and Innovation: #AdaptAndThrive In times of change and uncertainty, leaders must be agile and adaptable, ready to pivot and innovate in response to new challenges. They embrace change as an opportunity for growth and transformation, inspiring their teams to embrace uncertainty with courage and resilience. By leading by example and demonstrating a willingness to learn and evolve, these leaders inspire confidence and trust among their teams, even in the face of adversity. 3. Empathy and Compassion: #LeadWithHeart Perhaps most importantly, great leaders lead with empathy and compassion, recognizing the humanity in every individual and showing genuine care and concern for their well-being. They listen with open hearts and minds, seeking to understand the perspectives and experiences of those they lead. By fostering a sense of belonging and connection, these leaders build strong relationships built on trust, respect, and mutual support. In the end, leadership is not about being the most powerful or authoritative voice in the room; it's about being the most compassionate, empathetic, and inspiring. It's about lifting others up, empowering them to become the best versions of themselves, and guiding them towards a shared vision of success. So let us celebrate the leaders who light the way, who inspire us to reach for the stars, and who remind us that together, we can overcome any challenge and achieve greatness. To all the leaders out there, thank you for your courage, your compassion, and your unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. You are the guiding lights in times of change, and your leadership inspires us all to be better, to do better, and to make a difference.
