InnovaLatam was a huge success! Hosted for the sixth time in Cartagena by IXL, GIMI, the Chamber of Commerce of Cartagena, and Colsubsidio, this event attracted over 1,200 attendees both online and on-site. It is a unique gathering that brings together genuine innovation practitioners to share insights and learn from one another. Some messages I'd like to highlight: 1. Companies that embrace innovation proactively position themselves to adapt and thrive in rapidly changing markets 2. By prioritizing user-centered solutions, organizations can create products and services that resonate deeply with their customers 3. Testing ideas on a smaller scale allow for adjustments before significant investments 4. In times of pressure, organizations that cultivate a resilient mindset can pivot effectively, turning obstacles into opportunities for growth 5. Innovation cannot thrive in silos; organizations need to adopt a comprehensive and integrated approach that aligns various departments and strategies These are just a few, but they are enough to say that it was an enriching experience. Congratulations Carolina Chitiva for leading this effort. 🌟 Fuelling Innovation and Growth in Industry Innovation Hubs. 🌟 I just caught up on a fantastic talk, and once again, I’m energised and inspired by the insights! (Link in the comments.) It’s exciting to see major players opening Innovation Hubs, inviting external expertise to enhance their product offerings and solutions. Dan Ma, your career journey was truly inspiring, you demonstrate a rare leadership quality that fosters a true growth mindset—thank you for showing us how it's done! A huge +1 to the idea that innovation isn’t just about product—it’s also about process and execution. Implementation is where the magic happens. Feasibility tests and going 'all in' are what drive meaningful impact. One thing I’m curious about: How much collaboration exists between Innovation Hubs across different industry leaders? I believe we all agree that co-creation is essential, especially when engaging the healthcare ecosystem, patient organisations, startups, and beyond. Are there intentional efforts between hubs like those at Novo and Roche for example, to foster shared innovation? 📣 I’d love to hear from this community: ❓ What are some other Innovation Hubs or collaboration models you’ve seen really work? Any examples where cross-industry or cross-functional teams have created something ground-breaking? Please share recommendations or insights below 👇

There is always space for innovation... Innovation isn't confined to labs or tech hubs—it's thriving on the field and in boardrooms, reshaping both sports and business landscapes alike. Here's why there's always space for innovation in both arenas: 🔍 Spotting Opportunities: In sports and business, innovation begins with identifying untapped potentials and novel approaches. Whether it's a new training technique or a disruptive business model, innovation is the catalyst for growth. 🌟 Pushing Boundaries: Athletes and entrepreneurs share a common trait: a relentless pursuit of excellence. Innovation fuels this drive, encouraging us to push boundaries, challenge norms, and strive for greatness. 🔄 Adapting to Change: Sports and business environments are constantly evolving. Those who embrace innovation are better equipped to adapt to change, staying ahead of the curve and seizing new opportunities as they arise. 🤝 Fostering Collaboration: Innovation thrives in environments that encourage collaboration and diverse perspectives. Whether it's a team on the field or a team in the office, leveraging collective intelligence sparks creativity and drives innovation forward. 📈 Driving Performance: In sports, innovation enhances athletic performance, leading to new records and achievements. Similarly, in business, innovation drives operational efficiency, productivity, and ultimately, bottom-line results. From cutting-edge sports technology to disruptive business models, innovation is the heartbeat of progress. #innovation #future #marketing

INNOVATION MINDESET "Only your competitors benefit when you underestimate them." -- Alex Hormozi In the runup to the Lake Placid Winter Olympics in 1980, Herb Brooks (US Olympic Hockey Coach) arranged for the US team to play the Soviet Union team in Madison Square Gardens 3 days before the opening ceremonies. They lost 10-3. It was their first faceoff. Sometimes we look at our competition in life and figure that we’re lots better so we don’t drive to improve and win. Other times we look at our competition and think that we’re so far behind that there is no way to win. Either way we might be inclined not to drive for the victory. Either decision is likely a decision to let our competition win because they probably don’t share our complacency. As documented in “Miracle on Ice” (both a fantastic sports and leadership movie), the Soviets had won the gold medal in the previous 5 of 6 Winter Olympic Games. The US team could have just decided that they were too far behind to close the gap. In spite of this, they faced off just before the Winter Olympics and realized that they could indeed skate with the Soviets for all 3 periods. They had put in the work and this contest enabled them to believe that victory was possible. They came back to defeat the Soviets 4-3 in the first medal round. What do you believe about yourself and your competition? Have you faced off? Do you have what Simon Sinek calls “Worthy Rivals”? Are you driving for victory? Victory tomorrow can simply be to consistently be better than we are today. To get from here to there it helps to have external benchmarks that lead us to realize how much performance is possible. Prof G gives the advice to young professionals to move to a city where the competition is stiffer; because the competition challenges us to be our best selves. As he says, “it is better to be good in a big city than the best in a small town.” Embrace the internal and external competition and let it bring out our very best performance. Whenever we see someone doing something better than we can then we're receiving a gift. Knowing that "better" is possible is half the battle to being better. Don't write off their performance to intrinsic advantages. We can study their better and make it our own.

People are prototypes One of the most thought provoking points raised in last weeks Global Innovation Forum (GIFLondon) was the concept that as a leader, you are a prototype. Your job is to “tell and show” (thank you Newton Cheng) - pilot, demonstrate and role model the behaviours you want to see in your team. Newton spoke of the importance of normalising the conversation on mental health - so, so, so important in these tough times - by “telling AND showing” the personal impact. Yet this concept has power beyond this topic too. Imagine rather than telling people to “navigate ambiguity”, you tell stories of how you have plotted a squiggly path and show them how to do it. Or rather than telling people to be “consumer-centric” - you speak of compelling consumer stories consistently and regularly. Sounds like a no brainer - yet over the years I’ve seen leaders doing the “telling” but not “showing” - and certainly not being the prototype of the archetype they want to create. Innovation leaders - what behaviours do you want to see more prevalent in our world? How would you SHOW? How would your prototype them? Comment below ⬇️ Gold star if it’s something other than “celebrating failure” 😆

When thinking about updating the corporate strategy, do you wonder if you should call up those ‘usual suspects’, seasoned professionals, senior in the organisation and with knowledge of the products & markets? Or do you extend your reach further out into the organisation and seek what might seem to be reckless input from those never or rarely involved with the strategy, but the thinkers and the people that engage with customers, suppliers and technical organisations on a daily basis. For me, if you want different thinking on the problem that has existed for years and you’ve never really solved, then engaging other minds and perspectives is a golden opportunity to make bold intuitive leaps.

Exploring Intersectional Innovation I recently read "The Medici Effect" by Frans Johansson, illuminating how innovation thrives at the intersection of diverse disciplines. Inspired by the Medici family, who ignited the Italian Renaissance by merging diverse talents across fields, Johansson argues that today's most transformative ideas emerge when different perspectives and experiences collide. The book is easy to read and has good real-life examples of diversifying and innovating in various fields. It is an excellent example of improving building teams and creating an environment for innovation. Well worth a read
