Few days from being installed as new @UKCulture Secretary, LisaNandy , said: “Our world-leading museums are a source of creativity and curiosity that can inspire lifelong passions for learning, history and the arts." referring to the ArtFund Award 2024 won by the Young Victoria and Albert Museum What do you find extraordinary in this fact? So many things that I don't dare count, beforehand... 1. Recognition of the innovativeness of the British museums - no doubt that still many (although not all) of the most innovative reflections and approaches come from the UK, willy-nilly. 2. Museums are recognised as source of creativity and curiosity (!!! - I have strived since 2004 to pass the concept that museums are hubs for new cultures but I am a sort of old Briton undercovered: understatement is my Patronus ;-). 3. Museums can be inspirational - no need to comment this point: we all are dancing on the table. 4. Museums can sustain the life-long-learning improvements of the individuals in learning, arts and history. 5. Museums elicit positive emotions, no not positive emotions.... passion! Well, on the day George Clooney speaks up... what else??? One of the best summary of the ICOM definition. Great news to see that Minister for State for Museums (among his many other responsibilities), Chris Bryant, will be addressing the Museums Association Conference at Royal Armouries Museum on 12 November. It's an opportunity to hear how museums can both contribute to and benefit from the new government's cross-cutting, missions-based approach. It's also a great opportunity to formulate ideas and questions for a really important discussion to close the conference on 13 November, led by a panel, featuring Lord Chris Smith, Tony Butler, Laura Pye, and Zak Mensah - to explore the new ideas, new strategies and new alliances that museums will need to make to forge a sustainable future in some very uncertain times. I'll be holding a mic' and trying to direct the questions and interventions - so make sure you come with some good ones. I'm looking at the Autumn budget just now, noting that, in real cash terms, by far the largest part of the growth in combined revenue and capital funding between this year and next year will go into sustaining health and social care and education - while departments like DCMS, MHCLG, Business & Trade will take a real terms cut. If we need innovation to drive a new industrial strategy and growth to sustain culture and communities - it sounds as if our government will need help coming up with ideas... and what better place to start than with you? Reminder; the deadline for host institutions to validate the applications for the 7th call for mobility grants before final evaluation by the steering committee is on the 15th of March. Maria Maya Ertl, Brand Manager for Schönbrunn Group, was able to spend a few days of professional exchange within multiple departments of the Château de Versailles. Thinking of changes within the cultural environment brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis and how those affect palace visitors, Maria had this to say ➡ “In the cultural environment, where no ‚typical product’ but a service is being sold, the brand serves as a guide and creates emotions. Brand interaction should lead to a positive experience in which the customer expectations are not only met but also (ideally) exceeded.[…] Changes in people's lifestyles and the supply chain of businesses led to new phenomena and consumers began to examine products, services and brands from a new perspective.
