"New year's resolution" in October (because why not 🤷♂️): to reflect on my learnings weekly. Let's do it! 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟏 - 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐥𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐧 𝐒𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐡'𝐃 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 Back in June, our startup SpaceCraft won in the pitching competition from Campus Founders, and we got the tickets to Heilbronn Slush'D which took place today. I was honestly feeling a bit lazy to go all the way to Heilbronn, but Ekaterina Pestriakova said they might have free food, so off I went. So what did I learn? 1. It helps to have a clear plan in mind for an event. - I did try browsing last-minute through the event agenda in the train but didn't set any specific goals. Whilst there is nothing wrong with being opportunistic (more about it later), more purpose would surely not hurt. 2. The most interesting things happen quite randomly. - I got interesting tech ideas from Tillmann Lang and Paulin L. Wirth whilst waiting in line for a singed copy of "Connect the dots" book by Christian Busch - I got offered a warm intro to our indirect competitor by Björn Brenner whilst munching on a burger. 3. It's not easy to balance fun and productiveness. - Whilst it was really cool to meet so many familiar faces and to have an enjoyable banter and catch up on life, it also meant less room for meeting and getting to know new people. I also took notes from a few quite interesting workshops - might share those some other time. P.S. The burger was pretty good and free - definitely a worthwhile trip.

Today, Switzerland celebrates its 733rd birthday. My family and I are currently in the middle of a naturalization process; hopefully we can celebrate this day next year as our own. But for this year: Happy Birthday, Switzerland! Why I ❤️ Switzerland: 🤓 It's a powerhouse of innovation & deeptech. 🔬 Switzerland has topped the Global Innovation Index for the last 13 years in the row. Switzerland has the highest amount of filed patents per capita in the world. ETH is the best technical university in Europe, and produces the highest amount of spinoff startups of all European universities. ...yet the country doesn't rest on its laurels: Deep Tech Nation Switzerland recently launched an initiative to significantly increase VC funding to deeptech startups. I'll drink to that! 😎 You can get almost anywhere with a train. 🚅 The Swiss travel about 2,500 km / inhabitant / year with a train; only Japan tops that number globally. The Swiss trains run on time: 92.5% of trains arrived on time in 2023. That includes local traffic, too, not just the flashy, prioritized high-speed connections. 🚲 And if you don't feel like developing deeptech or sitting in a train today, you can hop on a bicycle (like 2.3 million others in Switzerland) and go swim in a crystal-clear lake or river in the middle of any city (eat dust, Seine). 🌊 I might just do that later today, after some backyard grilling (pardon me, grillieren). Zum Wohl!

🚀 Next week is going to be action-packed in Helsinki! I’m thrilled to attend Slush, one of my all-time favorite startup events! Slush is known for its intense focus on founders, investors, and making impactful connections, all aimed at driving the future and laying out the roadmap for the next big moves. What impresses me the most is that it’s one of the few places where you can hear directly from those who built companies like Deepl, Hugging Face, Twitch, or Flix—true startup all-stars with invaluable insights to share. Plus, some of the most renowned investors from both the US and Europe will be there. It’s amazing to see big fish and small fish swimming in the same pond, working together and learning from each other. I already feel the energy! But that’s not all…since I’ll already be in Helsinki, we decided to double up on the excitement by hosting the Demo Day for our EIT Urban Mobility RAPTOR Helsinki pilot project! 🚶♂️🌍 Dreamwaves is working closely with the Helsingin kaupunki – Helsingfors stad – City of Helsinki, Forum Virium Helsinki and humankind to make urban navigation more accessible, and on Monday and Tuesday, we’ll be out on the streets with our data collection app, gathering essential insights on accessibility. 📢 Are you at Slush and curious about our navigation tech? Join us for a live demo, test our app in action, and experience firsthand how we’re creating accessible urban spaces for everyone. Also, if you’re interested in contributing to our research, check out our survey https://lnkd.in/dr9Dwz6r.
