Associate Professor Ing Kong is a world leader in materials science and engineering, with a particular passion for designing technologies that improve the manufacturing process and also promote circular economies. She sees the potential to improve everyday life through engineering — and make a positive impact on the planet ♻ 'From an early age, I was fascinated by the mechanics of how things worked. The prospect of pushing the boundaries of what's possible, whether through designing new technologies, improving existing systems, or finding sustainable solutions is what motivates me.' Her focus on building sustainable solutions has led Dr Kong to addressing the mounting problem of plastic waste on farms. Here, her skills and knowledge are making a tangible impact. She's working with Rtec - Ritchie Technology Pty Ltd to test a technology that transforms agri-waste (such as such as twine, nets, fertiliser bags, plastic covers) into farm essentials, like fence posts—in turn creating a new source of income for farmers. Her expertise in 3D bioprinting has also sparked a collaboration with MoreDent (MIS Implants Australia), a dental company looking for help to develop innovative materials to stimulate the growth of new bones affected by gum disease. 'In a world facing pressing environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution, and resource depletion, we must adopt sustainable practices to safeguard our planet for future generations. Engineering offers a unique opportunity to innovate and create solutions that can significantly impact the world,' says Dr Kong 🌏 'If you are passionate about problem-solving, technology, and making a difference, let that drive guide you. Confidence in your skills and a strong commitment to your interests will enable you to overcome challenges and succeed in this rewarding field. 👩🔬 Transform your world with an Engineering degree from La Trobe: https://lnkd.in/gWKsDqUa #WomenInEngineering #INWED24 #materialscience #latrobeuni
Your work is so exciting changing the “could do” to the “this is how it’s done”! Always love hearing about your work! Great stuff Ing Kong !
