Does anyone ever think how did I get into this role/this career? “No idea…” For me Product Operations was completely a new concept. It wasn’t really fully understood if it could be a full time role or even if it had a label to it. I knew Head of Product/PMs were filling in some of those responsibilities but again with a little time to concentrate on it. So, how did I get here? Well I was doing some of the work without defining it as my job title: 1. Enabling PMs to get access to user data 2. Discussing what we are building in the future 3. Helping to communicate to key stakeholders on progress 4. Optimising product tools for better usaage etc. My Aha moment arrived! I came across Pendo.io e-book: The rise of Product Ops when I was looking for a product analytics tool funnily enough. This really solidified that this was the direction I wanted to go into. Product teams that wanted to scale needed POMs to enable PMs to be efficient when shipping out products that customers find the most valuable. (Plus the zillion things PMs have to do and think of) Was there a key moment you realised you wanted to explore a career path? #Product #ProductOperations #ProductManagement

𝗟𝗼𝘄-𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀. A product who is stepping into a new job is expected to demonstrate proficiency. The best way to prove it is to pick the low-hanging fruit: simple changes that produce significant gains in metrics. What can be done? 1. Put together a normal dashboard with key metrics for the whole team to look at. Despite the obvious, in 99% of cases, the company has some incomprehensible sets of disjointed tables instead of a dashboard. 2. Raise/lower prices. This is always the easiest way to affect revenue. 3. Revisit onboarding. If less than 80% of users are going through it, it can be improved. 4. See what's going on with push notifications. It often happens that users are sent template poos at the same time, which do not give anything. Disable template ones or change the texts, and add trigger ones. 5. If there's something in the product that the user buys regularly - convert those purchases to subscriptions What low-hanging fruit for marketers do you know? #productmanagement #productdevelopment #productstrategy

Despite the continuous advancement in technology and the constant release of sophisticated tools, pen and paper has remained an essential tool for Product Managers. 😁 According to Nikunj Thakkar, Senior Product Manager at Whatfix, 'Pen and paper are key parts of a Product Manager’s life and it’ll still remain the same for the foreseeable future. Taking notes using pen and paper and doodling helps in staying focused, understanding complex information, and grasping concepts better.' Many other Product Managers share this view. I mean research shows that retention rates improves when we choose pen and paper over mouse and keyboard. Yeah! But then again.... 😃... okay. I totally agree pen and paper are so handy for me when I have to quickly put that idea down and in retaining concept while studying. Moreso, if your role requires deep thinking and creativity. How valuable is pen & paper to you as a professional do share in the comment? #Amakadafe #Productlessons #Pmcareerjourney #Linkedlnmasterclasswithbrightokere #productmanagementtrends

𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 #𝟓: 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐀𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 When we do A/B testing, we rely on randomization to get unbiased results. But a common mistake is thinking that randomization always creates perfectly balanced groups. Randomization can sometimes give uneven results due to random fluctuations, which can lead to misleading conclusions. When working at an e-commerce business, we tested a change to how we notify users about our product recommendations. The test results were mixed: the conversion rate went up, but profitability went down. We found out that the test and control groups were not truly random. The percentages of products with different profitabilities were not comparable between the groups, leading to confusing results. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞? 🔹 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Divide the population into subgroups based on certain characteristics before randomizing within each subgroup to ensure balanced representation. 🔹 𝐋𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐬: Increase sample sizes to mitigate the effects of random imbalances and gain more reliable results. 🔹 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐝𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Use statistical adjustments during the analysis phase to account for any detected imbalances. By using these strategies, you can avoid misleading conclusions and make more accurate decisions. #ProductManagement #Experimentation #Optimization #ABTesting #Randomization #DataDriven #CustomerCentric #Career #stephenwang

Feeling lost as a new/junior product manager? ❌ Trust me! I’ve been there. Here’s the one thing that will help you solve most of your problems: 💡Ask. Ask to understand. 👉 Be brave. It’s okay to not know everything. Don’t hide behind your insecurities. Build up that confidence to ask questions. 👉 Find people to help you out with your queries and questions. Good tech/product/design teams will realise this and will be happy to help you out. 👉 If possible, go prepared. Example - “Hey I googled and this is what I understood. Please correct me if I’m wrong”. They might laugh but they will correct you if you’re wrong. Put some efforts to show your eagerness to learn and this will also help you with some starting points. 👉Use GPT. I’m not kidding. In the past few months, GPT has helped me a lot in developing the deeper context, which further helped me in framing some intelligent (and relevant) questions. 💡Some more brownie points: - Technical skills are NOT mandatory, but having tech skills will definitely give you an advantage. - So if you got the tech skills, play around with Data (sql, mixpanel), APIs (postman), etc. - Go through Product/tech Docs, PRDs to get that initial context. Tbh, this is the fun part of this role that gets easier with time. And don’t forget to take notes during your journey.📝 Everyone’s journey is different. Feel free to share yours in the comment section ⬇️ Cheers! ❤️ #productmanagement #product #journey #communication #apm
