WEC. WOW. A new Golden Age of motorsport. WEC Hypercar 2024. What a debut for the Alpine A424, 8th overall in the Qatar 1812km race, and the first of the new 2024 entrants across the line. After nearly 10 hours of flat out racing, the #35 car was just 37 seconds behind Ferrari, winners of Le Mans in 2023. #36 was 12th, the team completing a mind-boggling 665 laps between them. 🫵🏼 You need to check out this legendary piece of Porsche history! 🗓️ See this 1969 2.3L ST together with a 1970 Porsche 917 and a 964 ST-Recreation at our booth during the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion (August 14-17) at the Laguna Seca Raceway, as well as at the Pre-Reunion (August 10-11) and the Porsche Monterey Classic Event (August 12 at 4 PM, Porsche Monterey). 🏁 This original 1969 Porsche 911 ST, with its extended wheelbase, began life as a 2.0L but was later upgraded by Porsche Flocke Solingen to a more powerful 2.3L. It raced under the famous Braun Sixtant sponsorship, boasting numerous special modifications, including a fiberglass front hood reinforced with balsa wood. The heart of this race car is its original magnesium engine, equipped with Magneti Marelli twin spark distributors. As a true testament to Porsche’s motorsport legacy, this car was the first of its kind built in a larger series for customer racing and paved the way for today’s GT vehicles. Lancia offers hint at future rally return https://lnkd.in/eG-vkq9K The famous Italian manufacturer has been linked with a return to the World Rally Championship following reports in Italian media last year. The marque is the most successful in WRC history winning 10 constructor titles (1974-1976, 1983, 1987-1992). Lancia is undergoing a revival as an automotive brand under the Stellantis Group and in February it launched its new all-electric Ypsilon hatchback. The marque has now re-launched its HF (high fidelity) brand that featured on title-winning cars; the Fulvia, Stratos and Delta of the past that ran under the HF Lancia Racing Team, founded by Cesare Fiorio in 1963. Speaking at the launch of the HF brand, Lancia’s brand CEO Luca Napolitano suggested the manufacturer is looking into a return to rallying, although its full intentions remain unclear at this stage. “At the occasion of the debut of the movie Race for Glory [a film about Lancia‘s fight with Audi for the 1983 WRC title] in the major Italian theatres, I am delighted to unveil the new HF logo, which will make its debut on the New Lancia Ypsilon HF, before being used on the future high-performance versions of the brand. “After the presentation of the New Lancia Ypsilon, the first car of the brand new era, today we take another step ahead in the path to Renaissance, to emphasise the brand’s most brutal and radical soul and its commitment to focusing on performance models.” He added: 'Will we return to the Rally? We are working on it.' Napolitano’s comments arrive following the FIA’s announcement of widespread reforms for top-level rallying, which includes changes to technical and sporting regulations alongside reforms in the promotion of the championship.

Lift off - the mental Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO! In 1989, after a long, successful run in the Group B Rally Era and dominating the SCCA Escort Trans-Am Racing Series the year before, Audi chose to take on a new challenge. They entered the 90 Quattro GTO into IMSA racing (International Motor Sports Association). The car they fielded was special, to say the least. It packed a turbocharged 2.2L Inline 5-Cylinder making 720hp, which featured Audi's renowned all-wheel drive system. The package came in at 2646lbs (1200kg). Resulting in absolute vicious performance. Not to mention, it might be one of the coolest sounding cars ever made. Audi took home second place at the end of its rookie season, missing out on the Championship by two points. A slow start to the season cost them dearly, but the second half of that season showed how Audi could dial in the car. Winning 5 of their last 7 races. Just not enough to finish the job. A bittersweet ending. In 1990 however, Audi decided to leave IMSA and focus their attention squarely on DTM.
