🦷Do dentists know how to start their own business? 🚀 What if you, as a dentist, decide to prepare yourself before starting your business? You prototype and gain experience without risking your wealth before you invest. When a dentist decides to open his practice, he faces a scenario of total uncertainty. There is fierce competition in the market and the dental student does not have sufficient preparation from the university on how to open a practice. Academic preparation at the university does not teach how to start a business. The creation of a startup is characterized by: ☁ Thinking about a user problem. 💡 Converting ideas into viable products. 👩⚕️ Measuring how users (patients) respond. ➿ And finally learning how to improve or change. Most non-entrepreneurial dentists don't understand why they invested so much, because they chose the the best infrastructure, the best equipment and still, they can't “take off”; they look at the lower priced competitor and think: Where did I go wrong? What would happen if every entrepreneurial dentist could apply the Start-Up methodology in their business? I had a conversation I never thought I would: Limiting new patients Yes. Limiting. One of my start-ups was already riding the bullet train of 70ish new patients a month. The next month-end reporting showed a staggering 142 new patients 🤯 The owners showed up on our zoom call and they were exhausted They also felt guilty for feeling exhausted by a scenario most start-ups would dream of So we had a conversation about intentionally slowing down the number of new patients seen in the practice Patients can be the lifeline of growth but you have to be able to serve them without burning out your team They decided to cap the number of new patients each month, hire additional employees, and build out the systems needed for when they turn the facet on again At the end of the meeting, they were laughing, excited, and relieved that they were able to give themselves permission to slow down - guilt free There isn't one pathway to success and it's ok to decide to slow growth in favour of a strong team I can't wait to see them come back even stronger in a few months 🩷 ------ At Owner Dentist, I help dentists bridge the provider - ownership knowledge gap through my Power Program and ongoing advisory Want to learn more?
