Why is the U.S. lagging other nations in how it uses apprenticeships to train workers, especially when we know there are big skills gaps in fields where the programs could help fill the pipeline? This book is recommended reading for anyone who wants to understand the opportunities to train workers using apprenticeships. For comparison, the UK and Australia use apprenticeships 8x more than the U.S. Germany, Switzerland and Austria are 10-15x better. Apprenticeships are jobs first that include a formal training component. They aren't internships - and they also aren't limited to the construction trades, which still use apprenticeships effectively. I know firsthand, having completed one early in my career.
