What Costs Are Included In CMS TEAM Episodes? The CMS Transforming Episode Accountability Model (TEAM), launching on January 1, 2026, introduces a mandatory, value-based payment model targeting five major surgical procedures: LEJR, CABG, MBP, SHFFT, and Spinal Fusion. The model holds hospitals accountable for patient outcomes and costs throughout the care episode, including the surgery and 30 days post-discharge. Key cost components include index surgery costs, unplanned readmissions, Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) care, home health services, and follow-up carrier costs. Hospitals that efficiently manage these costs and improve care coordination will be rewarded with financial incentives, marking a shift from fee-for-service to value-based care. https://lnkd.in/gpRb2HPS #CMSPrograms #TEAMModel #ValueBasedCare #EpisodeCosts #HealthcareStrategy #SurgicalProcedures #CareCoordination #LEJR #CABG #SNFCare #HomeHealthCare #HospitalPerformance #PatientOutcomes #HealthcareIncentives #HealthcareAnalytics

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield has announced a controversial policy change: they will no longer cover the complete duration of anesthesia for surgical procedures. This decision could have significant implications for patients and providers alike, impacting both safety and financial outcomes. Anesthesia is a critical component of surgery, and proper coverage ensures patients receive uninterrupted, safe care throughout the procedure. Limiting reimbursement for its full duration could result in unforeseen challenges for medical teams and out-of-pocket costs for patients. 📖 Read the full statement from the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) here: https://lnkd.in/gdyqZERw This policy change raises urgent questions about how we value and prioritize patient safety. What are your thoughts? Comment below. 👇 #HealthcarePolicy #AnesthesiaCare #PatientSafety #InsuranceChanges

Did you know that MyPathway is ideally placed within VitalHub UK's suite of solutions to assist healthcare providers in fulfilling NHS England 's five key priorities for perioperative pathways? ****NHS Priority 4**** Only schedule surgery dates after confirming patients are fit for surgery through risk assessments. Below are just some of the ways in which VHUK supports this: Preliminary Risk Assessment Before Scheduling Surgery Hospitals can manage the entire pre-operative assessment digitally, receiving multiple data inputs to generate a full risk assessment, which is visible to all relevant staff across the hospital. Health Status Tracking Our solutions provides a RAG (red, amber, green) status for each patient, giving clinicians clear visibility into who is ready for surgery and who requires further optimisation. Prehab Support Prehab applications allow MSK teams to monitor patients and ensure they are optimised for their surgery. Without adequate physician coverage, healthcare facilities suffer. For example, without a surgeon or anesthesia provider, surgery comes to a standstill – putting patients at risk and forcing them to seek care from a competitor. When facilities lack certain specialists such as cardiologists or gastroenterologists, patients often move to a practice or system that offers doctors in all their areas of need. In a recent article for Healthcare Business Today, IMN President, Ashley Simpson, recommended a solution. By employing trained and licensed locum tenens (locums) – temporary physicians and advanced practitioners – a facility can fill-in coverage gaps and continue delivering quality care to its patients. I am thrilled to share two exciting developments that will expand healthcare access for patients in the Central Valley. Sutter Turlock Surgery Center Earlier this month, the purchase of Tower Surgery Center in Turlock was finalized, paving the way for its transformation into Sutter Turlock Surgery Center. This new ambulatory surgery center (ASC) will begin serving Medicare patients by July 2025 and fully open its doors in spring 2026. The 11,000 sq. ft. space houses three operating rooms. New Specialty Clinics We have also secured 6,700 sq. ft. of adjacent clinic space that will be leased by Sutter Gould Medical Foundation (SGMF). This space will house specialty providers in orthopedic care, podiatry, pain management, and gastroenterology. We plan to open these new offices by next summer. Together, these investments reinforce our commitment to delivering exceptional care, close to home, for Central Valley residents. We look forward to sharing updates as these projects take shape and serve our community meaningfully. #sutterhealth #sscd

UM surgeon at center of settlement says he does 3 to 5 surgeries a day. Is that possible? “Dr. Lamelas has performed more than 16,000 cardiac surgeries throughout his 28-year career, 7,000 of which have employed a minimally invasive approach,” the second paragraph of UM’s announcement read on Jan. 2, 2019. And if you divide 16,000 surgeries by 28 years, the math shows that Dr. Lamelas would have performed 571 surgeries in a given year, or roughly 1.5 surgeries every day, seven days a week Puffery comes in two varieties, one that stretches the truth a little with no real harm and the other that is potentially dangerous and harmful. In healthcare, puffery has no place and can potentially harm patients like those associated with performing surgeries. Truth truly matters in healthcare when it comes to patient safety. #exageration, #potentialharm, #careofthepatient, #doingrigtfirthepatient, Cesar M. Limjoco, M.D. https://lnkd.in/eXzXXBrB
