Today is Bitcoin Halving Day! This rare event, occurring only once every four years, significantly impacts the landscape of digital currencies. I'm excited to share insights from Marc Bürki, our CEO, featured in today's AGEFI, Nouvelle Agence Économique et Financière article on what this means for Bitcoin and the broader crypto market: 1. Long-Term Value Appreciation: Historically, halvings lead to a long-term increase in Bitcoin's price due to the reduced rate of new coins entering the market. We anticipate this trend to continue, reinforcing Bitcoin's appeal as an investment. 2. Historical Surge Post-Halving: Following the third halving in 2020, Bitcoin’s value surged over 500% from $8,788 to more than $64,000. Marc suggests that this precedent sets a bullish outlook for the future, possibly even breaching the $100,000 mark. 3. Rising Institutional Adoption: Recent months have seen a significant uptick in institutional interest in Bitcoin. Marc believes this bodes well for its potential growth, especially as we approach the total supply cap set for 2140. 4. 🎤 Earlier today, Marguerite de Tavernost was a guest at BFM Business’ “Crypto, le Club” to provide an overview of 2024 in crypto, and share a few insights on how things might evolve in 2025   So what happened this year?   🐻 After what was quite a lengthy bear market period, these past few months have re-energized Bitcoin and the market overall, bringing a much-anticipated breath of fresh air to the industry. Back in January, the approval of Bitcoin spot ETFs by the SEC, and later Ethereum spot ETFs increased general interest and trust in cryptocurrency – an omen for upcoming regulation, and a momentum that BlackRock’s $1 billion milestone only kept going   Already beginning in the US, this regulation trend is expected to spread across Europe and redefine the business framework more clearly, building legitimacy as the industry moves from a gray zone and becomes more durable   And how did all this factor in Ledger Cathay’s strategy?   💸 As Marguerite put it, VC cycles are quite similar to Web3 ones (even though the latter are slightly more intense), and a bear market can be a convenient indicator of a company’s health and potential for growth – if it manages to pull through those quieter phases. National Reserve. The executive order is also expected to direct federal agencies to reevaluate their approach to regulating cryptocurrencies. This could involve the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (hashtag#SEC) and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (hashtag#CFTC) reexamining their stance on digital assets, which could lead to clearer guidance and a more streamlined regulatory framework.
