The Lakeshore region’s agribiz sector is booming! One of Michigan’s largest independently owned craft breweries is working to grow its market share with a new Shandy Variety Pack. 🍻 The success of Saugatuck Brewing Company reflects the overall growth of the region’s agribiz sector. In 2022, food manufacturing, crop production, and related industries contributed 9.26% of Allegan and Ottawa counties’ total gross regional product (GRP). Since 2007, this industry has more than DOUBLED its economic impact from $930.7 million to $2.177 billion. In comparison, overall GRP grew 84% in that period. “Lakeshore Advantage has identified the agribusiness and food processing industry as one that is expected to grow in this region over the coming years,” says Amanda Murray, vice president of business solutions for Lakeshore Advantage. “This industry provides good-paying jobs for residents, and our team will be providing specialized expansion and retention support services to help businesses in this industry cluster succeed here.” What’s your favorite local brew? Cheers! 🍻 https://zurl.co/e54l

Do you see the problem the Brewing industry has with water? 😔 We are all aware that overpopulation, a lack of investment and climate change have resulted in water shortages across the UK and EU 🌍 Brew Resourceful's chart reveals the distribution of water intensity (L/L) among 70 breweries in the UK and EU. I am sharing this to highlight a critical issue - too many breweries are using too much water. 🌍 The Cost of Inefficiency to the Planet First, let's look at what the inefficiency looks like in real terms. Despite an industry median of 6.6 L/L, 37 out of 70 breweries are exceeding this benchmark. If those 37 breweries were to meet the industry standard this would represent: - 1.13 million hectoliters of water saved every year 💧 - Which would provide drinking water for 6.3 million people for an entire year, every year. 🥛 - ~ 23 tonnes of CO2e every year 🌱 - £170k saved in wasted utilities every year 💰 🔎 Key Takeaways From the Dataset and Chart What about the other 9,930 breweries?! So this dataset is the largest for brewery water intensity in the UK and Europe. And the numbers you saw above are based on just 70 breweries. So if we were to get hold of everyone's data, how big would this problem really be...... Is There Even a Standard?! The water intensity for some breweries is more than 6x higher than others, with values pushing up to nearly 20 litres of water per litre of beer packaged. But the standard deviation from the lowest to the industry standard is just 1.2 L/L whereas above the industry standard this over doubles to 2.5 L/L So to me, if you don't know you intensity, it can spiral out of control pretty quickly. 🤔 What Do The Best Breweries Do That The Others Don't? Measure, Measure, Measure 📏 Every brewery is different, but one thing is constant in every brewery below 6.6 L/L - They all take monthly meter readings and they all divide this by their packaged volume. Benchmark 📊 Once measured, benchmarking internally and externally. My company Brew Resourceful will benchmark your data against the live industry standard and breweries of a similar size. For free. Reduce 📉 Now you can start to reduce. I have written blogs on the Brew Resourceful and I have also helped reduce breweries like Northern Monk water consumption by millions of litres a year. See the case study I wrote on this here -> https://lnkd.in/erQixQUv How do you think we can stop water wastage in the brewing industry? #Sustainability #BrewingIndustry #WaterConservation #EnvironmentalResponsibility #InnovationInBrewing #ClimateAction

Rajdeep is known for being really good at helping businesses move a lot of stuff around, especially big piles of grain for places like distilleries, breweries, and food factories. Here's what his system does: 1. Cleaning and Storing Grains: We use machines that can push or suck grains to clean them up and store them properly. This ensures that the grains are clean and ready for processing when needed. 2. Taking Grains out of Storage Bins: Our system includes machines that can either push or suck grains out of storage bins. This makes it easy to access the grains whenever they're needed for production. 3. Cleaning and Grinding Grains: We have machines with moving parts that are really good at cleaning and grinding grains. This step is important to make sure the grains are processed efficiently and meet quality standards. 4. Moving Grain Flour Around: Once the grains are processed into flour, our system includes machines that can push or suck the flour around. This makes it easy to transport the flour to where it's needed for further processing or packaging. Our system covers everything a business needs to handle grains smoothly, making life easier for distilleries, breweries, and food factories. Whether it's cleaning, storing, processing, or transporting grains, Rajdeep's system has got it covered.

Anyone looking for a brewery? Not mine but I said I would help spread the word. Let me know if you need any further details and I can put you in touch. Introduction and overview The Laine brewery is housed in one of three similar production units situated alongside Hepworth’s Brewery and packaging site at Adversane, West Chiltington, Billingshurst RH20 1DJ. The brewery pays its own duty rate and is not linked to Hepworth. The three brewhouses on site were all built by LHS Stainless LH Stainless Ltd, Towiemor, Drummuir, Keith, Scotland AB55 5JA. LH Stainless is a UK based company whose main activities include process engineering, vessel manufacture and design services for the distilling and brewing industries. The Laine brewing equipment was installed and commissioned in the early part of 2017 and operational by May 2017. It has been in regular use since that time. The brewing operation is manual, there are electrical control panels for brewhouse operation and a temperature control panel for the DPV’s. The brewing vessels have all been inspected in situ and appear to be in good condition with no visible defects or damage evident in the vessels. The equipment has been well maintained and items of equipment such as the mill are serviced annually. The majority of the services required to operate the plant are supplied by communal supplies on site and therefore not included in the valuation. The main brewery vessels include grain handling and milling equipment, the main brewhouse vessels (three vessel brewhouse), Wort cooling including volume control and oxygenation. The brewery has six Dual Purpose Vessels (DPV’s) for fermentation and conditioning the beer. All the vessels were supplied by MGT Liquid & Process Systems, POB 367, Industrial Zone Maalot, Israel. Three of the DPV’s were installed when the brewery was first commissioned in 2017, two further DPV’s were added in 2018 and a sixth DPV was installed in 2020. Following the completion of brewing, the beer is transferred from the brewery across the yard to the main packaging area at Hepworth’s Brewery before delivery off-site. A separate agreement with Hepworth is required for their services. Current maximum brewing capacity of 380-480hl per week dependant on beer styles. Asking Price The brewery is sold in situ with no building or installation costs has an asking price of £220,000 Description of Brewing Equipment Grain Handling / Milling Comprising: • Malt intake Hopper (LHS) • AR2000 4 roller mill (Alan Ruddock) • Transfer auger (Unitrak) • Grist Case (nominal capacity 1.5 tonne) (LHS) • Transfer auger to Mash Tun (Unitrak) Brewhouse vessels (All supplied and installed by LHS) • Mash Mixer • Mash Tun • Underback • Copper • Whirlpool / Hopback • Brewhouse Access platform • 3 x Brewhouse wort transfer pumps Dual Purpose Fermentation/Conditioning vessels (DPV) (all supplied by MGT) • 3 x 8,500 litre vessels (2017) • 2 x 8,500 litre vessels (2018) • 1 x 8,500 litre vessel (2020) Wort Cooling
