Positioning Injuries in the Operating Room can and do occur. 🥴 Teaching young nurses the importance of positioning can sometimes be a challenge as there are just so many things to remember. Here are some Dos and Don'ts of Supine Positioning. Nerve injury can occur if a patient is positioned improperly during surgery or remains in the same position for an extended period. Standard for Supine Positioning: 🔷 Extremities secured and supported on arm board at angle ≤ 90 degrees. 🔷 Palms facing up 🔷 Fingers extended 🔷 Head facing up Proper patient positioning and using positioning devices can help lower the risk of intraoperative brachial nerve injury. *Edit: thanks to a kind soul who privately messaged me… I was focusing on supine positioning —— but please note Trendelenberg and Reverse Trendelenberg are mixed up — and in actuality THE OPPOSITE… ⬇️ Trend - Head Down ⬆️ Reverse - Head Up ✍️ Email: anna.gray@limitlessLNC.com Limitless Legal Nurse Consulting Podcast 🎙️ #medicalmalpractice #ORnurse #surgicalstandardsofcare

If not, chase it up. 🔹You may be asked to attend a meeting, but can request the matter be dealt with via written correspondence. The complaints procedure may be different depending on the medical setting. 😷Why is a Nil By Mouth hospital wristband so important?😷 An increasing number of surgical operations are often delayed or cancelled due to the patient eating or drinking before surgery. The cancellation of any surgical procedure will often distress the patients who are already anxious about coming to theatre. The knock-on effect will cause delays and a loss of revenue to the hospital. It was a pleasure to work with Wayne on the concept and design of the NIL BY MOUTH wristband. We quickly finalised designs, materials and fastenings for this innovative product and put the whole thing into production. Have an idea for a product that could revolutionise patient safety? Surgical complications present a significant challenge worldwide. To address this issue, the World Health Organisation (WHO) introduced the Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) as a means to decrease complications and fatalities during surgery. Nurses play a critical role in ensuring patient safety throughout the operation. A clear understanding of the checklist promotes effective communication within the surgical team, fosters a safety culture, and reduces complications.
