Renesas Electronics, a leading semiconductor company, recently introduced a groundbreaking AI accelerator designed for real-time processing of lightweight algorithms in robots. The company showcased this cutting-edge technology at the prestigious International Solid-State Circuits Conference held in San Francisco. The AI accelerator developed by Renesas is specifically tailored to meet the demands of modern robots. It combines conventional processing capabilities for planning and control with AI processing power of approximately 100Top/s peak for vision-based environmental recognition. Remarkably, the accelerator achieves this high performance while maintaining low power dissipation, eliminating the need for additional cooling mechanisms such as a fan. The power consumption of the 14nm integrated circuit stands at around 5W. #electricalengineering #electronics #embedded #embeddedsystems #electrical Follow us on LinkedIn to get daily news: HardwareBee - Electronic News and Vendor Directory

Time to revisit the meme robotics style 🤖 Foundation models will completely change the way robots are programmed and enable new applications 🚀 In this short clip (https://lnkd.in/ekG57irF), we combine #FoundationPose (https://lnkd.in/e_XprTuv), that tracks the pose of an object from a mesh, and #SegmentAnything (https://lnkd.in/eyyn3vEh), that extracts the mesh of an object from a picture. The result, a seamless pipeline to track the pose of any object from a single camera. We can prompt it to track a banana and it would do it, no re-training nor re-programming required. Shoutout to Yehya El Hassan for making that integration in #Studio from AICA SA. And in two weeks as a side project on top of that! Yet, deploying such models in industrial applications is challenging... First, they are GPU based. And GPUs have still to reach production environments. Siemens and Bosch Rexroth are working on that with their new industrial computers (IPC). Second, integration of different models and communication with real hardware is cumbersome. But not with Studio from AICA SA! The real-time robot control is the cherry on the cake 🍰 Finally, the promise to track any object falls short in industrial cases. Prompt it to track a specific gear or screw and it will most likely fail. Why that? Because those models are not trained on industrial data, as those data are not publicly available to keep production secrets. This will be the real challenge to overcome for meaningful industrial deployment. In the meantime, we will keep pushing the integration of those new technologies at AICA SA. If NVIDIA or Meta are open for collaboration on those topics I am always happy to discuss 😅 #AI #robotics #innovation

Every mobile robotics engineer knows about #ROS. For product development, the opensource framework is a super power that can be leveraged to dramatically reduce robot project build time. ROS removes the need to curate communication protocols (and often drivers) for a robot's constituent components, saving many of the hundreds of boiler-plate-coding hours that it takes to get a robotics project 'working'. Commercial governance and the extension of the ROS framework for scale enterprise use is achieved through joint initiatives including the ROS-Industrial consortium. The newly formed Open Source Robotics Alliance (OSRA)--founded by #NVIDIA, #Qualcomm, and #Intrinsic--will usher in a new era of governance. NVIDIA and Qualcomm are both depending on the framework as a means for developers to utilise (and optimise) their hardware. Championing ROS, ensuring that it is a dependable vehicle for the utilisation of high-resource chip sets, is the simplest way to keep the momentum of the incipient robotics boom building. https://lnkd.in/eSxY5YZ2

Nvidia has officially entered into the realm of robotics with project GR00T ("Generalist Robot 00 Technology"), an initiative to create a general-purpose foundation model for humanoid robot learning. The idea is to enable robots to understand multimodal instructions, such as language, video, and demonstration, and perform a variety of useful tasks. To that end, it simulates robots in "Isaac Lab", which is a new app on Omniverse Isaac Sim for humanoid learning, train then on "OSMO - Orchestration System to Scale up Models", and deploy them to "Jetson Thor", which it is a new edge GPU chip designed to power GR00T. And as you can see from the video, Nvidia has partnered with leading robot manufacturers such as Unitree, Apptronik, Agility, etc. In fact, the next market for Nvidia GPUs are robots, a 52 trillion dollar market by some estimates
