Want to talk about Security? Specifically - Women in Security? We are hosting a Women in Security panel on October 29th and would love to have you join us as a panelist. Here is a quick overview of the in-person session (Verkada's HQ in San Mateo): The goal of the panel is to create open space and an engaging discussion on: * The various definitions of security,  * How you may have navigated different career paths,  * Common misconceptions about security,  * Current trends in security space and challenges that women face in this industry, and * Magic wand - what would you change? (either how people think about, communicate, or act on topics of security and/or women in security) If you're interested in participating - reach out to me directly as I'd love to connect :)

73% of all women experience microaggressions at work: having their abilities questioned, constantly being interrupted, mansplaining, being asked to take notes or do other office housework, being excluded from communication flow or a men-dominated event, and so much more. This often leads to self-shielding: constantly monitoring and adjusting your behaviour to avoid the pain of rejection, negative comments, or being labelled as emotional, difficult, or angry. This takes its toll and can lead to burnout or thinking about leaving (Source: LeanIn & McKinsey reports). Whereas this is disheartening to hear, there's a lot that you can do about it. And this is exactly what we discussed earlier this week at my workshop about handling microaggressions at work for the Swiss Post: choosing wisely when to speak up, learning how to do it effectively, and discussing how to minimize the impact of the microaggressions through actions focused on self-care and building self-confidence. Thank you to Viola S. for the invitation to join your first event for women in cybersecurity and security champions, and for all the participants for sharing their stories, concerns, and learnings! These women (often the only women on their teams or even in the entire departments!) are true pioneers for more women in technical roles. Chapeau! It's been inspiring to meet you all.
