Today you will see a plethora of orange; shirts and posts to honour those who did not come home and survivors. While the awareness is an important step in continued conversation it doesn't end there with Truth and Reconcilation. I wanted to share some of my own learnings, in particular from this past month's connections and sessions, as I continue my own action plan with the grace I won't always get it right. 🧡 1) Start... don't wait to have all the answers, don't let fear of making a mistake or failure hold you back. Often we aim to "perfect before we act" wanting to make sure we have all the details. The learnings, history, and teachings across Turtle Island are diverse and complex. Push yourself to start your journey, including as a minimum pronunciation. 🧡 2) "1000 teas" Building Trust isn't about meeting your local Indigenous Centre and checking it off your list or asking one to come speak at your board meeting /team session so you can feel better about your EDI policies. My take away is I (and each of us) still need to put in the work to listen and learn while encouraging others to do the same, then take action, always. 🧡 3) Invest. Not just in knowledge and learnings for yourself or your organization but in Indigenous Arts and Tourism. I learned so much listening to the panel during "Voices of Trust" especially about Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) and a whole whack of resources right at our fingertips including through the Destinations Indigenous website. I have many more takeaways and learnings as I continue my own action plan... but... 🤔What action steps are you taking to do your part? Thanks to the two main events in the photo: 1) "Land Acknowledgments" through my colleagues at Niagara Fundraisers Network with support from NCF/ Niagara Community Foundation with learnings and presentations from Niagara Regional Native Centre Karl Dockstader Sean Vanderklis Halley Irwin 2) "Voices of Trust" moderated by Sara Wolfe , trust data & presentation by Edelman Canada and then with panelists Angela Mark Mélanie Valcin, MA and Keith Henry

Summertime; for some the time to reflect and look forward, for others the time to bounce back after pressure. It’s a two split, just like here -symbolically- in the picture taken in Sossusvlei, Namibia. When your balance has been disrupted, it’s important to first recover and return to your “normal state”. After this “bouncing back” (resilience) you’re able to bounce forward (adapt). Fall has just kicked in, an ideal moment to check in on your current inner state. - how do you currently feel; - what do you want and when; - what do you then need, from whom; and - what does it look like in the end? Bring that inner longing to life towards an outcome you desire. From inwards to outwards, it’s a constant interaction of dialoge between these two.

Dear PC, Thank God it's Thursday (TGIT), 😍😍😍You know what this means right? Holiday all through the weekend to Monday. Since most people will say it will be a relaxation period for them, I could partly say the same for me. I have decided to utilize this holiday for my advantage and personal growth. I have quite a few things planned out. Aside from closing out on month-end and quarterly reports for my organisation, I have decided to do the following: 1. I have a few training sessions that I missed this month, fortunately, I have the recorded sessions so I plan on going through them at some point during the holiday. 2. Complete my CFI courses and get certified. 3. Register for some oil and gas professional courses on Alison 4. Do some shopping to restock my kitchen... very important as a Man must chop, right? 5. Attend and reply to all unread messages on my WhatsApp... (If you have sent me a DM and I haven't responded, I promise to get back to you during this holiday🙏🙏) 6. Since Sunday is Easter, I will have to be in church, but instead of sitting in the congregation, I will be singing in the choir. Therefore, I have to attend rehearsals, O how I love hymns and classical by G.F Handel and Wolfgang Mozart. Lastly, if you are waiting to see "Go to the Gym", forget it o. I'm already fit thanks to all the walking I do here in Lagos. Lagos traffic is slim-fit and that's enough exercise for me.🤣🤣🤣🤣 What are your plans for the holiday? Make sure they are truly worthwhile.

As I arrived in Monrovia this morning, it was evident that the entire country was shut down in observance of President William Tubman's birthday—a significant figure in our nation's history. It is essential that we honor and celebrate the achievements of our prominent leaders. However, we must approach these celebrations with strategic foresight. Many of our population lives within tight margins, facing daily struggles. We cannot afford for our commemoration of this holiday to undermine our economy and the survival of our people. As a nation relying heavily on foreign donations to meet various obligations, we must critically reassess how we observe these holidays. Shutting down businesses and halting economic activities is damaging; it adversely affects our local economy and deprives the government of essential tax revenues. Instead, we need to implement a system that allows businesses the option to remain open while still recognizing the holiday. This approach ensures that individuals can continue economic transactions, maintaining their livelihoods while celebrating our national heritage. By striking a balance in how we observe our holidays, we can pay tribute to our historical figures without jeopardizing our nation's economic stability. What are your thoughts? How do you think we should celebrate our national holidays?

Today one month is World Water Day. For most of us that probably doesn’t mean too much. Please be aware that in hundreds of villages across South Africa, women and their children walk approximately 6km every single day to collect water from contaminated sources. We simply cannot accept this reality and are launching Relate Water as we have a dream of supplying these villages with clean, running water for life. Our team’s first goal is to provide the 4000 residents of the Nomu Wa Huku village in Mpumalanga with a sustainable solar water system. This will provide clean running water to taps throughout the village. I’m reaching out to everyone we know to help us reach this life-saving goal. It works like this: 1) Register for the Relate Virtual walk/run (you’ll get your digital event bib e-mailed to you closer to the time). 2) Walk, run or move anytime and anywhere in the world during World Water week (18-24 March) for 6km. 3) Please consider sharing this message with your groups, friends, family and colleagues to amplify your impact. #RelateWater 4) A live stream invitation will be sent to all registered to watch the opening of the taps and feel part of the difference you have made. Every registration will secure water for life to one person. The gift that keeps on giving! In fact Relate Water has a benefactor that will double-match every ticket purchased meaning that you will actually be securing water for life for 3 people!) Visit www.relatewater.org for more details and to register. P.S. This is the perfect opportunity for a team-building event with purpose, or to rally your friends around a cause. Contact us at support@relatewater.org to find out how your company or community can get involved. I have always believed that lots of little will make big impact and change so many lives.

Ever since reaching the exciting milestone of 50 members, we’ve been getting loads of questions about how to become a Famous Hostel. So, let’s break it down! We’re a proud nonprofit association founded by independent hostel owners, representing some of Europe’s finest hostels. Our mission? 🌍 To find the most exceptional hostel in each of Europe’s most vibrant cities, and fly the Famous Hostel flag high. 🏳️ All that while working together to keep a high standard of quality across Europe. Hostels can either apply or receive an invite from our board. But in both cases, we maintain high standards through a detailed process: 1️⃣ Submit an application with all the key info about your hostel, including legal responsibilities. 2️⃣ A member of our team will visit your hostel to ensure everything checks out. ✅ 3️⃣ Our executive board reviews the application and, if approved, opens it for a vote by our member base. 4️⃣ If you get the thumbs up from the Famous Hostels family, you’ll be welcomed into our marketing channels and enjoy all the perks of membership. 🎉 Too long of a process? 🤔 We get it! But it's how we guarantee travelers can confidently book the best hostel in every destination. 🏆 If you think your hostel should represent your city, hit the link below, and let’s talk! 👇 https://lnkd.in/dDeFHbSe

Tomorrow we will be celebrating May Day, which is considered "a holiday for the labour movement". We looked into the origins of this European tradition: In Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Germany and Latvia, May Day is a traditional and old holiday. In most other countries, the day has become a public holiday with the labour movement, which in the late 19th century chose it as its international holiday. In Finland, the old spring festival of Hela, or May Day, was celebrated around the time of May Day, when bonfires, or " hell lights", were lit in fields and other open places. Cattle were often let out to pasture for the first time and driven through fires to prevent illness. The tradition of bonfires among the Germanic peoples continues in Sweden, mainly in Svealand-area. In Finland, the burning of bonfires is nowadays quite rare and concentrated in Swedish-speaking areas of the country. Source: Wikipedia, so please be source-critical.
