As a translator who's been trying to switch careers, I've been reflecting on what it is that I do in my profession and what I can bring to the table in my future role. When I looked back on my past work experiences, it finally dawned on me that everything has one thing in common: facilitating communications. After all, translation is essentially a bridge between languages and cultures. And when we're on an office setting, doesn't it often feel like each person speaks their own language? That each one has their own culture? When I worked as an #ExecutiveAssistant for a #fashion #retail brand, one of my key responsibilities was being the bridge between my boss, the CEO, and the rest of the team. I relayed her directives along to our marketing, design, and style teams, ensuring that deadlines were met and execute the company's vision. In this position, I also managed the entire #SupplyChain process, which involved daily communication with our suppliers and partners. This is where things really got tricky. Each set of suppliers had completely different communication styles, even within a group that spoke the same language. Our Brazilian subcontractors, for example, the seamstresses that actually made the clothes, communicated almost exclusively via chat messages. I remember that one of them only ever sent audio messages to the point that I never got a single written word from her. What did I do? I adapted to them. Need audio messages? I can do audio messages. Prefer text messages? I can do text messages. On the other hand, our #International suppliers had other communicating preferences. The Chinese would always email, but the Indian preferred calling due to the time zone and to move things more quickly, given that we always had a lot to adjust with them. That work experience taught me a great lesson: communication is nothing but a game of adapting. The ability to adjust to different styles and preferences is essential to ensuring that everyone is on the same page, whether you're working with colleagues, suppliers, or clients. So, adapt, adapt, adapt. When you work in a team, each person is like their whole own little world. If you're proficient in adapting languages and cultures, like any good translator, you're all set. As I move forward in my career, I’m excited to bring these skills into a new role where effective #communication, #adaptability, and cross-functional collaboration are essential. #AdministrativeProfessionals #OfficeManagement #ProfessionalGrowth #BusinessSupport #TeamCollaboration #LeadershipSupport #OperationsManagement #ClientRelations #CareerTransition #Adaptability #CommunicationSkills #AdministrativeSupport #ProfessionalGrowth #AssistantRoles #VirtualAssistant #ContentCreation
