The #value of #art, whether traditional or digital, is influenced by various factors. Let's delve into both general aspects and specifics related to digital art and NFTs: 1. **Scarcity and Demand**: High demand for a particular artwork, coupled with limited availability, drives up its value. Rarity creates exclusivity, making collectors willing to pay more³. 2. **Artistic Significance**: The impact of art on viewers matters. Art can evoke emotions, challenge perceptions, and inspire. Pieces that resonate deeply tend to hold greater value². 3. **Historical Context**: Art often gains value over time due to its historical relevance. Works associated with significant movements, artists, or cultural shifts become more valuable³. 4. **Artist Reputation**: Established artists or those with a compelling narrative tend to command higher prices. Reputation, exhibitions, and critical acclaim contribute to an artist's value³. 5. **Materials and Craftsmanship**: Traditional artworks' value considers the quality of materials, technique, and craftsmanship. In digital art, the process and software used also matter³. Now, let's explore specifics related to digital art and NFTs: * **NFTs and Digital Art**: Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have disrupted the art market. Their uniqueness, verifiable ownership, and scarcity contribute to value. However, the environmental impact of NFTs remains a concern¹. * **Beeple's $69 Million NFT**: Beeple's digital collage, "Everydays — The First 5000 Days," fetched $69 million. While some see it as speculative, the concept of an authentic copy linked to a digital certificate adds context. Still, questions persist about what constitutes an authentic copy in the digital realm¹. In summary, art's value is a complex interplay of creativity, context, scarcity, and perception. Whether it's a centuries-old masterpiece or a digital NFT, these factors shape its worth. 🎨💡🌟 Source: (1) Art Demystified: What Determines an Artwork’s Value? - Artnet News. https://lnkd.in/gfdf2uYe. Hello to Digital Art Creators of all kinds! 🖼 🎨 I am happy to announce we started a project - “Exsomnis”, an online gallery for digital art. Its goal is to present the creations of digital artists to the world and to be appreciated by potential buyers - collectors and investors. In the era of expanding digitalisation and tools availability, we see enormous increase in creation abilities, expression and reaching new levels in digital art creation. Digital tools improvements give more power to the creators to bring art closer to our lives and minds. Our goal is to show it and to connect the creators with investors and buyers . Exsomnis stands behind the goal of collecting and investing in digital art to become more accessible, regardless of place, artist history and story. The final stage of the project is going to be uploaded before March 22nd 2024. The current address is https://www.exsomnis.art. *** Currently the pages ‘Artists’ and ‘Stories’ are empty. Page ‘Stories’ is intended to be the place we will tell stories about: - A new artist that posted their work in the gallery - what is the inspiration behind the collection or the piece, what is the message the creator want to deliver, or whatever they want to share. Can be few times per week, can be few times per day. - A new “Topic” that is introduced and in which new art creations will be included, its meaning and inspirations. Also when new art creations are added, as a series or not, to a topic. Page ‘Artists’ is intended to be the place where we announce when a new artist uploads a new images, series of images, part of a series. This information would include the details each artists would want to give for themselves, in the way they would present or promote themselves, etc. Art: This is the store for the digital art. Examples of currently created categories are: NFT General purpose art (multiple copies available) Retro Gaming Fantasy Chinese Cyberpunk Nature Industrial Please note that these are created for representation purposes at the moment. They of course will be extended. With each upload, the artist will determine in which category the image they want their work to be uploaded. Art will be posted on the site unless/if the artist requires it to be removed. The store will be promoted before investors and buyers, social platforms and communities. *** Please do not hesitate to ask about details and give proposals. We will be always open for them of course, but since the project is not finished yet, this is a good time I think. #digitalassets #digitalart #digitalartists #digitalartist #digitalcreators #investments #digitalartinvestments

Tomorrow FIrst appointment at the Academy of Fine Arts Genoa, with a lesson on the origin of NFT. Speculation, death or resurrection of an art that reflects the decay of society? The fact that today we are intergenerational connected implies that the internet is not just a media, but the media, in fact we use it indoors as well as outdoors, the internet accompanies us from the beginning of the day to the end. In a constant rhythm of "virtuality" today we are all content creators in our own way, we all have a social network, social networks have replaced commercial television, and we ourselves have become not only users but also sellers. The Internet has also spawned a number of mass subcultures, such as glitch art. vaporwave, meme, which have increased its aesthetic, the aesthetic of the internet, which means a space filled with generic data, popular concepts and user-generated images often of poor quality, using inspirational images or the same images without copyright , generating a bulimic copy-and-paste loop of digital junk, which drowns out relevant content. So much so that to give voice to news and content you have to pay for the services, just as a TV charges for advertising space. But what are these contents like? What is their aesthetic? Before there was Beeple, there was William Shatner. In July 2021, the "Star Trek" actor, singer and author created a series of trading cards featuring images from his career: a telegram from a producer, a photo from his first modeling shoot, an X-ray of his teeth - and listed them as unique digital tokens for sale online. Within nine minutes, the entire run of 125,000 tokens sold out, for around $1 each. At the time it seemed like a lot of money for digital artifacts with no real-world value. Now, not so much. Known as NFTs, such tokens have taken off in recent weeks in what can be called an ecologically destructive speculative bubble or a promising new funding model for art and media, depending on who you ask. Subsequently, a digital collage by graphic artist Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple, was sold at Christie's auction for $69 million. The auction house declared Winkelmann "among the three most valuable living artists". In 2023 NFTs have a significant value on the market, today they are moribund and perhaps ready to be resurrected, in a market that increasingly focuses on digital and in which the videogame industry is in first place, the dream of the metaverse does not cease to exist, what will be the fate of the economy? and art? But why did we get to this? Is NFT the art we deserve? ephemeral, simple and devoid of content? I will discuss it tomorrow at the digital art session at the Art Academy Ligustica.

Damien Hirst’s recent revelations about the mass production and backdating of his artwork raise serious ethical questions. When an artist’s ‘usual practice’ involves misleading dates and outsourced production, it not only diminishes the authenticity of the art but also undermines trust in the entire market. Should such practices be normalised, and what does this mean for the future value and integrity of contemporary art? Is Hirst’s credibility at stake?
Damien Hirst faces scrutiny as a Guardian investigation reveals at least 1,000 of his NFT project paintings were backdated; despite claims of creation in 2016, they were mass-produced in 2018-2019 by hired painters across two studios https://ow.ly/m85P50RTUeb

INSIDE THE DIGITAL ART MILES'S DEBUT DURING ART BASEL IN SWITZERLAND Matt Medved for nft now Key Takeaways: 🍇 While digital art’s footprint remains nascent at and around Art Basel’s namesake fair in Switzerland, this year’s edition saw several encouraging signs with stronger attendance by the web3 community than in any year prior. In a nod to digital art’s growing influence, Art Basel itself held two events aimed at engaging the digital art community: a digital art meetup featuring remarks by CEO Noah Horowitz and Chief Digital Officer Craig Hepburn and a “Digital Dialogues” panel series featuring artists like Refik Anadol, Krista Kim and Sasha Stiles. 🍍 Anadol also debuted a new immersive work at the fair entitled “Inner Portrait,” in collaboration with Turkish Airlines, complete with uniformed attendants handing out Turkish delights and coffee. 🥜 Outside the fair, ArtMeta’s The Digital Art Mile organized a series of digital art exhibitions and events across several Basel venues between June 10 and 16. Created by art advisor Georg Bak, DIGITAL ART ADVISOR and ArtMeta founder Roger Haas, the Digital Art Mile’s debut edition featured exhibitions by Sotheby’s, Fellowship, Objkt, fx(hash), TAEX, Makersplace, Artxcode, RCM Galerie, Cinello, and Danae, as well as conference programs and events hosted by the likes of CryptoPunks, Sigg Art Foundation, and the Tezos Foundation. 😎 - Many members of the digital art community were visiting Basel for the first time. What do you attribute this growing footprint to? 😀 - The Digital Art Mile rapidly gained traction, creating a buzz across Twitter and web3 conferences. The anticipation and FOMO surrounding the event convinced many to book last-minute flights to Basel, despite the challenge of fully booked and expensive hotels. The event’s growing footprint is a testament to the community’s enthusiasm and the dynamic conversations about digital art. 🍟 Additionally, there is a growing interest in the recent evolution of AI in art. Fellowship has especially showcased historical works from 2015, including the first GANs by Gene Kogan, the first Deep Dream artworks by Alexander Mordvintsev, the first DALL-E artworks by Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst, and the first-ever text-to-image prompted works by Elman Mansinov. These are undoubtedly grails of digital art that will make their mark in art history books. 😎 - What are your plans for ArtMeta and the event going forward? 😀 - We are committed to establishing the Digital Art Mile as an annual highlight in Basel’s art scene, with plans for pop-up events in other cities. Our focus remains on contextualizing digital art and enhancing education around it, making this innovative form of art more accessible and engaging for a broader audience. 👾 LEARN MORE: https://lnkd.in/dQPbKxQN #web3 #arts #fashion #metaverse #crypto #ai

NFTs are primarily associated with digital art created by digital artists. Until NFTs came along there was no formal structure or marketplace for selling digital art. Now there is. Art created with conventional materials like paintings or watercolors physically exists, as do markets for selling it. Physical works can also be scanned or photographed, as they have been for decades, and printed and sold as editions. What would selling digital files of those photographs or scans as NFTs add to that?
