There was an incredible superstar line-up of presentations and speakers at the The Institute for Functional Medicine #AIC2024. One panel discussion stands out because included a multidisciplinary panel - MD, ND, APRN, and a PharmD 🙌🏽 Here are the top 3 things I learned about GLP-1s that I think are wroth highlighing: ✨️ Topical compounded metformin can be a great alternative in patients with GI side effects ✨️ Studies have shown reduced inflammation, lower Nf-kB and as much as a 30% reduction in hsCRP ✨️ When we're working on weight loss and actively trying to mitigate muscle loss, sure protein has to be a priority, but the conversation has to also include fiber and behavior change. Truely a great discussion, and FWIW I really loved the format 🤓👏🏽 👉🏽 What have you been seeing in your patients on GLP-1? Shilpa P. Saxena MD Michelle Leary Monique Class, MS, APRN-BC Melody Hartzler #FxMed #integrativemedicine #glp1 #pharmacist

Insightful recommendations form SMOB
The current limited availability of the GLP-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) product #Wegovy® (2.4 mg semaglutide) demands an urgent prioritization by means of which patientgroup should be treated first, second, etc. To support health care providers to make reasonable and (as much as possible) evidence-based clinical decisions, the #SMOB provides recommendations for the prioritization process. These were generated by an interdisciplinary task force consisting of Katharina Timper, Lucie Favre, Marco Bueter and Bernd Schultes. Please use and share as much as you can! Of course, comments, questions and any #feedback are more than welcome! #wegovy #taskforce #triage #obesity #treatment #bariatricsurgery

As no disease-specific COA instruments for MMA and/or PA currently exist to capture the patient perspective in clinical trials, and MMA/PA patients are generally young and have cognitive impairments, an observer-reported outcome instrument is crucial. In this study, we report results from qualitative research supporting development of the Methylmalonic Acidemia and Propionic Acidemia Questionnaire. https://ow.ly/3kXp50TFmoQ #ObsRO #COA #RareDiseases
