And so it begins. Using Gen AI to streamline and take cost out of film and TV production was always a question of when, not if - and undoubtedly film and TV studios are already using it, though perhaps dodging headlines given the talent sensitivities. For Lionsgate, doing it at this scale is a bold but smart move - as a small and more budget-constrained studio it has everything to gain and less to lose. #runway #lionsgate #genai #strategy

In the early days of cinema, filmmakers simply filmed stage plays, unaware of the new language the medium would eventually develop: flashbacks, cutaways, close-ups. All tools that transformed storytelling. Gen AI holds similar promise for the world (and for finance): tools that won’t replace expertise but will empower it in ways we’re just beginning to explore. So rather than trying to sum it up, here’s a short video to show you what we’re building and why we believe it can make a real impact on your work. Oftentimes, seeing is understanding.

AI is here to stay. Figure out where and how it fits in your workflow.
As #AI hit a fever pitch today between the launch of a new generative AI focused film&TV company with investment from a legendary studio exec & producer, the unsanctioned cloning of David Attenborough's voice, the sanctioned remake of a 1995 Coca-Cola commercial by Coca-Cola the ™ owner... here's another post announcing that the recording of the AI panel from IndieWire's Future of Filmmaking Summit is now available. Yahtzee! I appreciated that in a room primarily full of filmmakers attempting to parse through the doom & gloom headlines that are the current status of the entertainment industry, my fellow panelists (Erik Weaver, Brian Solomon and Dave Clark) presented a balanced discussion of the what is (and -> insert emphasis --> what is not) happening around/in/with/without AI from the creator perspective. As stated on the panel, the studios, VCs, venture funds and etc are going to do what is in their best interest - whether we are talking about AI or some of the other topics highlighted at the Summit including indiefilm distribution challenges, streaming discovery issues and "ran-away" productions filming outside of the US. These are in so many ways out of our control. So I focus on what is actually in my control. As my career began in legacy media and I continue to have the privilege to be able to further expand into all media categories and experiment with many technologies, I'm looking forward to further conversations* about AI. I believe in stories, partner with storytellers, work in storytelling, and know that technology can enable and support all because it is a tool. But without human creativity, direction and inspiration these tools do not create things of their own. A core tenet of Kinetic Energy Entertainment is that we are in the business of creators and creativity. #keepitmoving * a conversation is a 2 way (generally unemotional and hopefully full of facts) discussion of a subject in which one person listens as the other person speaks and then reverse uno. Screaming accusations and calling names ain't it and I am not the one. https://lnkd.in/gNAbfXwj

Will Open AI's SORA democratise filmmaking or destroy it? It is going to change everything of that we are certain. Today on Ticker TV, Tom Finnigan form Friyay.ai delved into the fascinating world of OpenAI's Sora, discussing its potential to democratise filmmaking. The interview explored the transformative power it offers to creatives previously barred from the industry, yet also tackled concerns about copyright and the origins of Sora's training data. While Sora represents a leap forward, enabling anyone to create stunning content, we believe in the irreplaceable value of human creativity and storytelling. Our innate abilities to convey stories and emotions are what truly distinguish us, something no AI can replicate.
