**A Critical Moment for Monarchs and Conservation!** Tomorrow, Dec. 4th 2024, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will announce one of the most significant decisions in history for the monarch butterfly: whether to list it under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). No matter the outcome, the monarch’s plight is a wake-up call. Without urgent action to protect their habitats—especially native milkweed—we face the loss of this iconic species. But the challenge is complex. Listing the monarch could unintentionally cause fear, prompting landowners to remove milkweed rather than risk regulation. We need collaboration, not fear. Farmers, landowners, and conservationists must work together to restore milkweed and wildflower habitats without penalty. The ESA should serve as a tool to support monarch recovery, not stifle it. The future of the monarch butterfly—and countless pollinators—depends on us. We must act now to do better for our shared planet. Let’s use this moment to unite in conservation, not divide in hesitation. #SaveTheMonarchs #plantmilkweed #MonarchConservation #MilkweedMatters #EndangeredSpeciesAct #PollinatorProtection #NativePlants #nativemonarchs #monarchbotanika

🐘 When Wildlife Sets the Rules: A Lesson in Coexistence Captured this powerful moment during a recent field visit - an African elephant asserting its ancient right of way on a shared access road. It's more than just a stunning wildlife encounter; it's a masterclass in wildlife conservation and human-wildlife coexistence. What We Can Learn: • Wildlife corridors are crucial: These paths have been used by elephants for generations • Respect is key: Understanding and yielding to wildlife reduces conflict • Infrastructure planning matters: Roads through wildlife areas need careful consideration • Patience pays: Taking time to let wildlife pass safely benefits both species This image perfectly encapsulates why we need thoughtful conservation strategies that balance human needs with wildlife protection. African elephants, being keystone species, need vast territories to maintain healthy ecosystems. Their preservation is crucial for biodiversity. Question for my network: How can we better design our infrastructure to minimize impact on wildlife movement patterns while serving human needs? #WildlifeConservation #Sustainability #Conservation #HumanWildlifeCoexistence #AfricanWildlife #BiodiversityConservation #WildlifeProtection #ConservationLeadership #EnvironmentalProtection #WildlifeManagement #ConservationBiology #SustainableDevelopment #AfricanElephants #WildlifePhotography #ConservationWork #NatureConservation #WildlifePreservation

𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🦌🌳 Good news for European wildlife! Some conservation efforts across the continent are paying off, showing promising trends in species recovery. Here’s a look at how: 1️⃣ Rewilding Projects: Successful rewilding initiatives, like those for the Eurasian lynx and European bison, have helped boost populations through habitat restoration and targeted reintroduction programs. 2️⃣ Protected Areas Expansion: The growth of nature reserves and protected areas has provided critical habitats, allowing endangered species to thrive. The Natura 2000 network plays a key role in safeguarding biodiversity across Europe 3️⃣ Stronger Legislation: Policies like the EU’s Birds and Habitats Directives have helped enforce protective measures, ensuring that critical species and ecosystems are preserved While these efforts are working, challenges remain, such as habitat fragmentation and climate change. Continued dedication is needed to sustain and expand these gains 💬 What more can be done to build on these successes? 📖 For the full analysis, visit: illuminem.com #Conservation #WildlifeRecovery #Biodiversity #Sustainability #Rewilding #Europe

🌻 In case you missed it 🌻 The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has proposed to list the Suckley's cuckoo bumble bee as endangered under the Endangered Species Act. These bumble bees uniquely rely on other native bumble bee colonies to survive. Like monarch butterflies, these and other native bumble bees benefit from landscape conservation like those promoted on energy and transportation lands by the Conservation Agreement for At-Risk Bumble Bees. Read more about this important effort currently undergoing USFWS review at: https://lnkd.in/gKNbnZvQ The proposal to list the Suckley's cuckoo bumble bee as endangered is open for public comment until February 18, 2025. "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤, 𝐬𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥." 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐭. Recognizing the importance of wildlife conservation and restoration efforts for all imperiled species. The Endangered Species Act (ESA) was signed into law and became a landmark piece of legislation that institutionalized our national commitment to the conservation of plants and animals and habitats in which they are found. ESA has been highly effective and credited with saving 99% of listed species from extinction. Today, the ESA protects over 1,300 species that are either endangered or threatened. This historic conservation law has helped revive the populations of nearly 300 species in the last 50 years. Every year on the third Friday in May, we celebrate Endangered Species Day by learning about and taking action to protect threatened and endangered species around the world and in our own backyard.
