Couldn’t say it better than Karen Hollywood already has. Talking about women and philanthropy with this group was such a thoughtful, collaborative exercise. They wondered whether women were more inclined to give unrestricted support (anecdotally, yes); whether women tend to give through trust-based or data-driven lenses (the data says both), which superpowers women of different generations bring to the table (loads; too many to go into here); how to engage women to give more (start with your existing female volunteers); and so many other interesting directions. Let’s keep having this conversation about the (super)power(s) of women as donors.
The Princeton Area Community Foundation Fund For Women and Girls (FWG) held our annual event to celebrate this year's grantees and congratulate them on their success. A lovely evening of mingling and catching up for members of the Fund, non profits and community members including some Women In Development - New Jersey former and current board members in the room - Denise Kawailani Barricklow and Susan O'Connor. As part of the program, Elizabeth B. Wagner from Bryn Mawr Trust joined FWG President Carolyn Sanderson to discuss women in philanthropy and current trends. Thanks to the generosity of our members, the Fund awarded more than $200,000 in grants to local nonprofits dedicated to serving women and children. The 2024 grant recipients are Dress for Success Central New Jersey - 7 Counties NJ HomeWorks Trenton Millhill Child & Family Development PEI Kids Center at 353 and Arm In Arm. Between 2000 and 2020, the average giving by donor households stayed steady. However, single women donors increased their contributions during COVID-19 compared to single men, demonstrating unique patterns in women’s philanthropy. bit.ly/WomenGive2024 #WomenGive #WomensPhilanthropy #PhilanthropyResearch

Nonprofits can not cut their way to growth - yet #nonprofit leaders facing a deficit in 2024 are forced to consider cutting overall agency costs, along with reducing staff, delaying hiring, and limiting wage increases. Nonprofits need sustainable business models. Period. Thanks to the Center for Effective Philanthropy for their insightful report. #philanthropy #fundraising

Studies show that 92% of non profits do not know how to engage Millennials and Gen-Z. I made that stat up, but it's not far from the reality. Most nonprofits are using old strategies in this new world, and they wonder why they are not growing. These generations are driven by values and a desire for tangible change, not just tradition or obligation. Here are key strategies to build lasting relationships: - Share real stories of impact, not just numbers. Highlight how donations make a difference in specific lives and communities. - Be open about successes and challenges. Emerging donors value honesty and want to partner in solving problems. - Get them involved. Offer opportunities for volunteering and feedback. These donors want to contribute their ideas and skills, not just their money. By focusing on these elements, nonprofits can create meaningful connections with emerging donors, turning them into lifelong advocates. If you want to develop new strategies to engaging the next generation we are here to help. Reach out and let's work together to get the Gen-Z and Millennials engaging with your nonprofit. Let’s adapt our strategies to meet the changing needs of philanthropy. #donorengagement #emergingdonors #nonprofitfundraising #nonprofitleader

As a nonprofit founder serving our unsheltered neighbors, I'm reminded daily of how vital community support and sustainable funding are to our mission. Every grant, every partnership, and every policy decision directly impacts our ability to serve those who need it most. On a personal note, being both a nonprofit leader and a mother of a young adult with complex medical needs has given me a unique perspective on the importance of sustainable support systems. It's taught me that none of us—individuals or organizations—can do this work alone. ✨ To my fellow nonprofit leaders: I see your dedication, your sleepless nights worrying about program sustainability, and your relentless advocacy for those who depend on our services. 🫶🏽 To our supporters and partners: Your continued commitment to supporting vulnerable populations makes transformative work possible. Whether through grants, donations, or advocacy, you help create the safety nets that catch people when they fall. 👉 Let's continue this crucial conversation: • How is your organization building sustainable support systems? • What innovative funding solutions have you discovered? • How can we better collaborate to strengthen our community safety nets? #NonprofitLeadership #CommunitySupport #SocialImpact #Advocacy #HomelessnessServices #NonprofitManagement

✨ Today is National Nonprofit Day! As we celebrate and honor organizations around the world who are serving and improving our communities, let's consider how we can make our giving more equitable. Leaders of color receive just 3.6% of nonprofit funding, and causes like women and girls (1.9%) and the LGBTQIA2S+ community (0.28%) are often overlooked. By shifting the power of philanthropy, we can change who gives, how we give, and what gets funded. Nonprofits, especially grassroots initiatives, need flexible, trust-based support to drive real change. Check out this round-up of nonprofit organizations to find new partners to support: https://lnkd.in/eTUt8RHp #NationalNonprofitDay #SupportNonprofits #CollectiveGiving

Today is the 3rd Annual #GivetoWomenAndGirls Day! 🎇 This national campaign, led by The Women's Philanthropy Institute (WPI) at Indiana University Indianapolis, seeks to raise awareness of the funding gap that exists for nonprofits devoted to women and girls, and encourage an increase in support. Issues affecting women and girls have received more attention in recent years, but the share of total philanthropic support directed to organizations supporting them has remained stagnant and strikingly low. 📉 By supporting Legal Momentum, our dedicated team is able to continue protecting the economic, educational, and physical security of women and girls via impact litigation, legislative advocacy, and educational initiatives. Donate today: https://lnkd.in/gZa9GEV Legal Momentum remains hopeful we can work together to narrow the funding gap that exists for women's and girls' organizations. One area where gender matters most for charitable giving during COVID-19 is in households experiencing income loss during the pandemic. Income loss presented significant barriers for women donors, possibly due to economic pressures or caregiving challenges. Women Give 2024 provides insights into how these shifts affected philanthropy and offers guidance for nonprofits to better understand and support their donor base. Explore the findings: bit.ly/WomenGive2024 #WomenGive #WomensPhilanthropy #PhilanthropyResearch

The future of philanthropy lies in the hands of the next generation. Gen Z and Millennials are bringing fresh perspectives, increased digital connectivity, and a strong passion for making a difference.
