D.T. Thompson, a senior advisor for Elara Nova and former vice chief of space operations for the U.S. Space Force: "The Space Force budget will probably have to double again in the next five years to effectively implement the Joint Warfighting Concept, protect U.S. interests and freedom of action in space, and begin to address the challenges coming in lunar space. The question, of course, is whether the Space Force’s 2026 request will reflect that need." cc: Elara Nova: The Space Consultancy
Why is this year’s budget request cutting the Space Force?

A thought provoking opinion: “Space Force’s leadership are of three minds: those who look down, focusing on ground operations, those who look around at orbital space and those who look up and out. Those who believe the Space Force should focus on what is happening on the ground refer to its support function for the joint force of all the current branches of the military. This ranges from communications, creating and protecting space-based command and control systems, observation and, in its most visionary (and ominous) form, operation of space-to-ground weapons. Those focused on looking around are concerned with what is happening in orbital space. Their concerns range from orbital debris, to protecting U.S. space assets like communication and spy satellites from adversaries, to watching and being able to knock out the assets of adversaries, for instance by taking down enemy satellite systems in time of war. Those whose eyes and minds are focused upward want a space navy, with the solar system as its ocean. They see the Force’s job as securing the ability of America and her allies to travel through, live in and develop space. Their concerns include China and Russia being first, and forever owning the resources and high ground on the moon, in free space, on Mars and beyond.”

Best invest in Building Fusion power, space, and maritime propulsion systems and industry, You talk about Nuclear (meaning Fission) and fail to discuss fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M The nuclear fission industry is, ignorant of what's happening around you. Pull your uranium heads out, start adjusting your industry to fusion energy and start preparing to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. As it dawns on Earth like the sun. Great Headline Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk Commercial fusion electrical generation is a promising innovative sustainable and clean energy method. By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now see what is happening in the Fusion industry in the world. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fuel shortage is increasingly real, https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr
The United States Space Force, at five years old, is divided in its vision, with some members focusing on ground operations support, others on orbital space, and a third group advocating for a space navy to secure America’s interests in the solar system. The tension between traditionalists who see the USSF as an extension of existing military branches and visionaries who believe in a proactive approach to space dominance, particularly against potential adversaries like China and Russia can be a huge strategic Challenge. We need a forward-thinking Space Force that prepares for future challenges beyond Earth’s orbit, emphasizing the need to establish a presence on the moon and in cislunar space to prevent adversaries from claiming these territories. Failing to expand the USSF’s role beyond a glorified satellite operator could result in strategic setbacks, drawing parallels with historical military shifts and advocating for immediate action to secure America’s spacefaring future.

As predicted, space is going to be the new military frontier and will be getting a substantial bost by the Trump administration, not just because of Elon but because two things are aligned. 1. Trump while not necessarily a deep thinker on this matter has the the right intution. It was him who started the US Space Force during last time he was president and is now well aware that the real battle is going to be won by those who hold supremacy in space. This included not only LEO, GEO and MEO but also the moon. 2. SpaceX makes this all feasible as the primary things that are keeping the space economy back is regulation and bureaucracy. By utilizing the huge advantage the US have in the space race because of Elon and by being aligned with US strategic goals, this provide Trump with an ability to actually completely change the trajectory of human progress to be the president who made us a space faring civilization. In other words, both US strategic interest and capabilities are in sync. A lot have to go right, but all the elements are there. https://lnkd.in/eSWD6XiG
Trump’s second term could push Space Force to take bolder stance

Gen. Stephen Whiting, commander of U.S. Space Command, recently cautioned that China is “growing its military space and counterspace capabilities at breathtaking pace.” He cited China’s rapid increase in space-based surveillance capabilities in particular, saying it had tripled in number since 2018 to 359 surveillance satellites. Maj. Gen. Greg Gagnon, deputy chief of space operations for intelligence, said that since 2015, China has increased its number of satellites by 550%. Congress and the executive branch should heed the warnings about China’s space capabilities. The United States enjoys a substantial lead in space technology, but China is moving quickly to copy our technology and counter the advantage it provides. It is time to get serious and to make the hard choices. It is time to unleash the Space Force. https://lnkd.in/etbt7qz8

ULA’s Vulcan Rocket Nears Certification, Awaits First National Security Launch Date 🚀 United Launch Alliance (ULA), an American launch service provider formed as a joint venture between Lockheed Martin Space and Boeing Defense, Space & Security, is in the final phase of certifying its Vulcan rocket for its first national security mission, USSF-106, as part of the National Security Space Launch (NSSL) program. The U.S. Space Force is analyzing data from Vulcan’s recent Cert-2 test mission, which encountered a minor issue with a solid rocket booster nozzle. Certification is expected soon, with the first two missions set to launch U.S. military satellites. Meanwhile, ULA is preparing for future Vulcan launches by stacking components at Cape Canaveral and planning a new transport vessel for 2026. “Moving some space tracking duties away from the military is more conducive to developing a Space Traffic Management regime” This was a focus for Trump’s regime in 2018, aiming to reduce the risks of accidental collisions in outer space. But, the US’s position on space monitoring may shift in the next four years. Will it the space budget become more focused on space travel? It’ll be interesting to get these updates soon ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eUjbgw5p #USSpace
