The US faces a growing physician shortage due to an aging population and rising demand for medical services. Hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare organizations are competing intensely to recruit qualified physicians, offering higher salaries and lucrative incentive packages. Some key statistics: 👉 From 2019-2022, the number of hospital-owned physician practices grew 9%, while corporate-owned practices grew 86%. 👉 There were 1,400 private-equity healthcare acquisitions in 2021. 👉 Demand for family medicine practitioners is extremely high, with only 10,800 available to fill 3,000 open positions nationwide. To address the shortage, healthcare organizations are proposing record-high salaries and incentives, with 55% of 2023 family medicine placements offering packages worth $100,000 or more.
