We need to hear from all female triathletes! SheRaces and Fund Her Tri UK need your help! https://lnkd.in/eq-Zx-q8 We need your help to fully understand the considerations on how to make Triathlon a more gender-inclusive sport so we can create guidelines to support every triathlon and welcome all female athletes. Our research stats from surveys are great for getting attention. Our original finding that almost 90% of women would be more likely to enter races that committed to inclusivity got race directors thinking 💰 But we find it is your race stories that provide the real insight. They help us drive change with races by explaining how issues have affected athletes. WHY we didn’t sign up for a triathlon, or WHY we felt uncomfortable on the start line. What it was that gave us a less-than-perfect race experience or made us feel less valued. We also want to hear what races have done well – what has made a positive difference so we can help other races do the same. Every response is valuable and we need to hear views of a diverse range of athletes – from novice to experienced, of all ages, abilities, ethnicities, backgrounds and preferred triathlon distances. Please support us by sharing with any clubs you are part of and nudging any triathletes you know.

🌟 A Weekend of Triumph: The BTT Sussex and London Experience at the Super Series World Championship Triathlon🌟 This weekend marked a milestone for the The Black Tri Tribe (BTT) community. Members from Sussex and London gathered to witness the sheer magnitude of human potential at the British Triathlon Federation supertri World Championship. It was a spectacle of endurance, where every stroke, pedal, and step was a testament to the power of perseverance. For the first time, I immersed myself in the thrill of the live event—both in-person and virtually. The electric atmosphere was palpable, as we watched athletes like Beth Potter and @Cassandre Beaugrand delivered performances that transcended the ordinary. Their grit and grace on this global stage brought the entire arena to its feet, uniting us in awe. As the founder of the Black Tri Tribe and a steadfast advocate for inclusivity in sports, this event resonated deeply. It was a celebration of what we stand for—a world where the starting line is accessible to all, and every finish is a collective victory for diversity. Beth and Cassandre didn't just race; they paved the way for female athletes everywhere, showcasing the boundless potential of women in sport. Their success is our inspiration. It fuels our mission to lower barriers and champion the involvement of Black and Asian communities in triathlon. As a community leader, it reaffirms my commitment to empowering our members through the transformative power of sport. We are more than a community; we are a force for change. Let’s carry this energy forward. Let’s make the impossible, possible—together. #BlackTriTribe #TriathlonInspiration #FemaleEmpowerment #CommunityLeadership #InclusiveSport

Excited to see our triathlon research featured on Triathlete Powered by Outside! You may have already seen it doing the rounds on Instagram, opening up conversation within the triathlon community so please do help us to share, share, share! We conducted this research in partnership with Fund Her Tri UK surveying more than 900 female triathletes – ranging in experience from under a year to more than a decade racing in the sport – culminating in the most detailed research and analysis to date on the experience of women in triathlon racing. ⚫️ Only 3% of women reported neither being deterred from entering a race (for reasons other than cost), nor experiencing inequitable provision as a woman. ⚫️ 84% of female triathletes would be more likely to enter races that committed to equitable and inclusive treatment for women ⚫️ 67% of women are put off entering triathlon events due to the cost ⚫️ 19% of women have been put off entering triathlons because of uncertainty about making the overall cutoff times ⚫️ 24% of women have been put off entering triathlons due to a lack of available logistical information ⚫️ 57% of respondents have experienced insufficient toilet provisions at race ⚫️ 69% have only been provided with unisex t-shirts ⚫️ 24% have noticed unequal coverage of the men’s and women’s competition before, during and after a race ⚫️ 42% have found a lack of private changing facilities at events ⚫️ 28% of female triathletes in the survey have experienced physical or verbal harassment at a race ⚫️ Of triathletes who became pregnant while preparing for a triathlon, 79% lost out on at least one race entry due to pregnancy Using the results of the survey and the comments of the respondents, we have written a detailed report outlining the current state of the female experience in triathlon racing, which includes in-depth insight and analysis. We’ve also written triathlon-specific race guidelines for race organisers, which outline best practice for all events to be inclusive to women. Following these simple guidelines makes triathlon better for everyone – men benefit from steps towards inclusion too. 👀 To find out more about our triathlon report and guidelines head to our website. www.sheraces.com 💌 Interested in partnering with us or hearing more about how you can fundraise for us and the work we do? email us at hello@Sheraces.com https://lnkd.in/daJjT2rA

Our ladies who climb group is expanding! Great to see women supporting women 🙏❤️ I cherish our weekly Tuesday morning connect where we take on the hills of Mosman and help support each other in all areas of life including career. It’s amazing when you conquer a big hill, the belief it can instil. Also the humility when members have taken time out for different reasons and being kind to yourself and trusting in the power of consistency to rebuild strength. I think we can transfer lots of lessons from sport to business including the power of practising consistency, discipline and humility. PLEASE SHARE!! SheRaces launches triathlon research and guidelines! 🏊🏼♀️ 🚴🏽♀️ 🏃🏻♀️ Full report and guidelines ➡️➡️➡️ https://lnkd.in/d_nSvP62 https://lnkd.in/dTxBTTpi Our original research carried out in 2022 focused on the experiences of women mostly in trail and road running. We’ve now extended this to triathlon with an in depth survey of 900 women of all experience levels. Only 3% had not been deterred from entering an event (for reasons other than cost) or had not experienced races not being designed for women. That means there is a huge opportunity to increase female participation in triathlon - as well as improve race experiences. Our goal is now to work with the whole triathlon community to break down barriers for women - of all ages, abilities and backgrounds so more women can experience the joy of swim, bike, run. Please share your feedback on the report - and share with any events, clubs and organisations that might find it useful. We are always listening to improve guidelines so please share any further suggestions you have. Huge thank you to Bianca Fernandez-Clark and Fund Her Tri UK for partnering with us on this research, and ensuring that we included a diverse range of womens’ voices, including those of Muslim athletes who have greater barriers to participation (but which events can address with simple provisions.)

The longer the distance, the better women perform. This is a fascinating insight, and many female athletes demonstrate it in ultra-distance running. For my article published today in Süddeutsche Zeitung, I spoke with Jasmin Paris, who became the first woman to finish the Barkley Marathons, and physiologist Nick Tiller, who advances research on women and endurance sports. Main takeaway: Yes, women are more likely to outperform men on very long distances. However, the focus shouldn’t be solely on whether women are faster than men in ultra-endurance sports (only about 20 percent of participants in long ultra races are women), but rather on encouraging more women to participate in these events and tackling the gender research gap in sports science. Closing this gap is essential for better understanding the unique strengths and challenges faced by female athletes in ultra-endurance events. In the picture, you can see Courtney Dauwalter, a superstar in the ultra-running community, who is also featured in my article. #endurance #ultrarunning #barkleymarathon #jasminparis #courtneydauwalter #running #performance #genderresearchgap Süddeutsche Zeitung Link to the article (SZ Plus): https://lnkd.in/eifPCxGV

Women running marathons?... What a crazy idea! I recently came across Kathrine Switzer's story...What a crazy story! In 1966, women were considered "physiologically incapable of running 26 miles", and despite Bobbi Gibb finishing the marathon within the first third, she was not allowed to get registered in the Boston Marathon. Until 1967, The Boston Marathon had been an all-male event for 70 years. Kathrine was able to officially register that year as she signed the required forms as 'K.V. Switzer.' paying a full fee of 3$ for the entry (nowhere did it say she was a woman, nor her registration name could give her away) The race began, with encouraging and welcoming words from the other (male) participants and an excited press to see a woman in the race. Moments later, the race co-director realized a woman was in the race (how dare she?!), jumped from a press-truck and chased after Kathrine trying, fortunately unsuccessfully, to stop her and get her out of the race. What had started as a personal challenge, even with some skepticism from her coach, became a race to prove that women are capable of running a full marathon, finishing in approx. 4h20min. What's even crazier than this story though, is that as a result of her run, the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) banned all women from competing against men. It took another 5 years for the Boston Marathon to establish a race for women. *How many times have women been doubt of being capable of doing anything without foundation? *How many times have we, women, believed these foundation-less statements? *What is it about women that gets everyone so afraid of their strength? Find the whole crazy motivating story here https://lnkd.in/dPqN687 #womenmarathon #womenempowered #unapologeticallyfabulous #dramaqueen
