🌎 Today is International Day of Disabled People, a moment to reflect on inclusion and understanding. 🌏 I live with Ankylosing Spondylitis, and my life is often lived on the border of ability and disability. Some days, I feel fully able—running, walking, cycling, swimming, socializing, staying out late, and sleeping peacefully through the night. Then, without warning, the tide shifts. 🌊 Suddenly, I am disabled. I can’t walk or lift my arm. Sitting or standing brings discomfort. I can’t make it to the office or care for my kids independently. Social plans are cancelled, and life feels smaller for a while. Living with an unpredictable condition has taught me so much about resilience, compassion, and the importance of designing workplaces, communities, and systems that are accessible to everyone. Disability can be visible and invisible, temporary, or cyclical, yet it profoundly shapes how we engage with the world. I am spending time reflecting on how we can create more inclusive environments, not just for those visibly disabled but for everyone navigating their own challenges. If you have thoughts please get in touch I really want to hear how I can better support with the work I am doing. 📣 To my fellow warriors on this journey, I see you. 💙 #InternationalDayOfDisabledPeople #Inclusion #Accessibility

This video shows a woman in a motorized wheelchair navigating obstacles like curbs with no curb cuts, cobblestone roads, and cars parked so close to make her car's access ramp inaccessible. While this can be frustrating, the woman keeps a good sense of humor and makes the best of the situation. The video transitions to show her joyfully navigating accessible scenarios where she effortlessly transitions from the street to the curb and rolls up her car access ramp. Living with a disability often means encountering obstacles everywhere you go. While we believe in and are committed to advocating for accessibility and inclusion, it’s important to remember that having a resilient mindset can change the way we perceive our experiences. Looking on the bright side and finding joy in small victories can make a massive difference. We received approval to post this video with the aim of raising awareness about the creator and the important topics they discuss. Video Credit: @heidiherkes/IG Ablr is a full-service disability inclusion organization, and our mission is to remove barriers for all people with disabilities. We do this by eliminating the digital divide, changing the mindsets of people and organizations, and creating pathways to employment. #Accessibility #Innovation #AssistiveTechnology #Inclusivity

Make 2025 the year of inclusion for disabled people for your organisation Now well into the swing of the new year, let's commit to making our organisations more inclusive for disabled people. Here’s how you can #DoItDifferently: 1️⃣ Listen to Disabled People Engage directly with the people who use your services or are part of your community. Their feedback is the key to understanding barriers and creating real change. 2️⃣ Invest in Accessibility & Awareness Proactively arrange disability awareness training and conduct an access audit of your spaces, services, or digital platforms. This will uncover hidden barriers and guide you towards actionable solutions. 3️⃣ Turn Insights into Action Knowledge is only powerful when you act on it. Implement the changes you’ve learned about—whether it's improving physical access, adjusting policies, or enhancing communication. Real change comes from real action! 💡 Why It Matters: When you create a more inclusive organisation, it benefits everyone. Small changes for disabled people often improve the experience for everyone involved. Let’s lead by example in 2025 and create a world where every person can fully participate, thrive, and contribute. Want to get started? Disability isn’t a “special need.” It’s a natural part of human diversity. 🌎 People with disabilities don’t need to be seen as “other” or as “inspirations” simply for existing. They deserve equality, opportunity, and respect, just like anyone else. Imagine if we stopped putting people into boxes and instead started seeing every person as unique – with their own strengths, needs, and dreams. 💭 Disabilities are just one part of a person’s life; they don’t define the whole story. They are colleagues, friends, parents, creators, dreamers, and changemakers, deserving of the same space and respect as everyone else. 🤝 Let’s break down the barriers and shift the narrative: Disability is not a problem to fix but a vital part of our shared humanity. Together, we can create a world where diversity isn’t just accepted – it’s celebrated. 🌈 👉 What’s one way we can show up for inclusion today? Drop your ideas below. Let’s be part of the change! #EqualityForAll #DisabilityIsDiversity #InclusionMatters #BreakTheStigma #CelebrateDiversity
