The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) published today a Request for Information (RFI) Regarding Interregional and #OffshoreWind Transmission for the West Coast (https://lnkd.in/e9Mg3ytA). The RFI seeks written input by October 3, 2024, on planning and development of onshore and offshore electric transmission facilities to service #offshorewind power on the West Coast. According to the RFI, DOE is particularly seeking through a series of questions to understand: - transmission siting constraints both offshore and onshore - environmental and energy justice priorities - community impacts - information gaps, and - technical assistance needs Information gathered through the RFI will inform a West Coast Offshore Wind Action Plan and builds upon DOE's West Coast Offshore Wind Transmission Convening Series held in 2022 and 2023, a February 2023 West Coast Transmission Literature and Gaps Analysis (https://lnkd.in/eYEaXZ9S), and the commencement in May 2023 of a 20 month West Coast Offshore Wind Transmission Study (https://lnkd.in/e9wvnRpy). Interested parties may submit comments to OSWTransmission@hq.doe.gov. #floatingwind, #electrictransmission, #renewableenergy

NEW: The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking feedback to address challenges and barriers to efficiently capturing clean, reliable power from West Coast offshore wind (OSW) resources and delivering it to communities that need it the most. Part of a multi-tiered approach, the Request for Information announced today will help inform a West Coast OSW Transmission Action Plan and support the Biden-Harris Administration goal of deploying15 GW of floating OSW by 2035.
