Here are 5 ideas for maintaining a less cluttered home: 1. Keep a bag in the boot of your car for charity donations. As you come across something that is no longer needed, pop it in the bag. When it’s full, drop it off at your nearest charity shop. 2. Practice the 1 in 1 out rule – anything new coming into the home has to be exchanged from something that you no longer need or love. 3. Treat pending school holidays, birthdays and Christmas as good opportunities to sort out possessions that can be passed on for others to enjoy. 4. Engage the rest of the household in the benefits of decluttering their own things (they will know where to find what they want and they may even make some money selling old things). 5. It’s Giving Tuesday! Last year, $3.1 billion flowed to charities during this event. Here are a few things to keep in mind today: 🧡 Avoid scams. Don't clink links in emails/social media posts and go directly to the charity’s website. 🧡 Many employers offer a match for charitable contributions. Check with your HR/benefits team for this perk. 🧡 Research your charity on sites like Charity Navigator and Guidestar before donating. 🧡 If you itemize on your taxes, save your receipts to stay organized. The IRS only requires you to keep receipts for donations over $250, but I keep them all in a special tax file. 🧡 Give with your heart and share! If there is a cause you believe in, tell your friends. Small charities are struggling more than ever. Holding Space is no exception. Our work is crucial to the parents and carers of East Sussex, but if things continue as they are we may not be here in 2025 to meet the needs of our local community. And to meet the needs of our local community, we need our community to help us. Funding opportunities are shrinking, while the number of small charities needing support is increasing. We rely on donations, we rely on volunteers. We’re vulnerable. There are so many fantastic ways that small charities can be supported by their community. But it has to come from people. People who want to make a difference, a tangible difference. People who are willing to… 💜Volunteer their time 💜Encourage their employer to get involved 💜Set up a monthly donation 💜Start a fundraiser 💜Share and like our social media posts The reality is this.
