There have been so many great roundups from #Cannes this week, so I’m just going to share the one big lesson I learned. And that was to always, always, stay curious. If I'm honest, I was slightly dreading my first trip to the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, 12 years after leaving the advertising industry. The excess consumption, the rosé, the yachts, the relentless pursuit of growth. It was all there of course, but I was genuinely surprised by the fantastic experience I had. Here's why... *There were more panels and discussions on inclusion and sustainability than I could get to. Of course, far more action is needed but these issues are growing at pace on the industry's agenda. Special mentions to Unstereotype Alliance, WACL (Women in Advertising & Communications Leadership ), GALA Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance, Microsoft's MJ DePalma, and ACT Responsible for their panels. *Hearing Emily Trenouth, Becky Owen, Alanna Doherty and Tobi Demuren talk about the opportunity for content creators to disrupt business models and reshape representation and community was a #NewPower moment in a festival, and industry, dominated by behemoth global companies and networks. *True creativity is a joy to behold. Especially when it's brave, emotive, inclusive and delivered on an epic scale. Shout out to two of my favourite winners, 4creative's mesmerising C4 2023 idents, and The Monkeys anthem to Sydney Opera House on its 50th anniversary. *The entries for the Glass Lion, Lions for Good, and SDG Lions made me *almost* (maybe?!) want to get back in the game (blog post to come on those winners later!). *I was so happily reminded that, over the last 20 years, I’ve met and worked with some truly brilliant people. To have dozens of them descend on one place at the same time was a wonderful thing. We went there to gather opinions on ethics and responsibility in marketing. What I also got was a powerful reminder to stay curious, to keep my mind wide open, to be ready to listen and learn. And that creativity can be magic ✨ #canneslions2024 #advertising

Spending a week with 125 of the brightest young creatives from around the world and learning from some of the top minds in advertising has been one of the most inspiring experiences of my career. When you're surrounded by so much talent and creativity, you can’t help but walk away with new perspectives. This industry is constantly evolving, and those who push boundaries, embrace new ideas, and lean into the unknown are the ones driving it forward. It was epic to hear from so many of these innovators in person. Every conversation, panel, and workshop was packed with insights I’m excited to bring back to my team. I’ve pulled together 8 key takeaways that hit home for me about the future of creativity and advertising. For me, it all comes down to this: Creativity is about solving real problems, pushing limits, and staying ahead by connecting with culture, data, and diverse perspectives. Huge thanks to LIA - London International Awards for the unforgettable week and to everyone who made it so memorable! Laurissa Levy, Brett Glatman, Barbara Levy, Tara Mckenty, Anthony Dever, SUPERPLASTIC®, and many more 😎 Group 4 forever! ----- Takeaway credits: Bianca Guimaraes, Conrad Persons, Emma de la Fosse, Tiffany Rolfe (she/her), Kaleeta McDade, Juliana Constantino, Toan Nguyen, Ben Tarr, Susan Credle, Adam Ferrier, John Mescall #LIA2024 #CreativeLIAisons #LasVegas #Creativity #Advertising

I returned this week inspired to be in our industry and grateful for the opportunity to share with, and learn from, such an incredibly talented marketing community at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. For me it was a week filled with meaningful connections, insights and thought provoking conversation. 🦁🧡 I've been before, but there was something about this year that felt different - and it’s not just my delight and surprise that geospatial was elevated by both PwC UK’s future tech team and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) talking to their human centric approach to geospatial intelligence. This was the first Cannes where it was clear that tech is driving the future of advertising and marketing, and that we're ‘moving from AI hype to AI in action’. Gen AI in particular was a hot topic, with discussions delving into its role in enhancing creativity and efficiency in creating content. The speed at which technology is evolving is astounding, and staying relevant means that as an industry we must adapt quickly and understand our audiences more deeply than ever. But in the middle of this tech revolution, the humanity of creativity remains core. AI can optimise and enhance, but it's the human touch, that continues to bring impact & relevancy. A highlight for me had to be an intimate session hosted by Mastercard CMO Raja Rajamannar with Deepak Chopra MD (official) on the 9 steps to creativity - one that will stick with me for a long time 🫶🏼 But what really made this year different? Not just the connections, or the people, or the content, but the diversity. This year felt more inclusive and authentic. From female-led conversations at The Female Quotient #equalitylounge, the Chief network and WARC #empowercafe to spending time talking to more Young Lions, alumni from Brixton Finishing School, graduates from brands, content from Group Black and #inkwellbeach, and the pride-themed events, there was a real celebration of diversity and individuality. I left the week thinking that creative will undoubtably get more exciting, and more effective, as we continue to blend tech with the human touch. From the integration of AI and tech-driven marketing to the comeback of humor in advertising, it’s clear our industry is evolving. Thank you for the enlightening discussions, round tables, panels, meetings and interviews. Thank you to some special people who helped shape my week, asked the big questions, and sparked my inspiration. Hope, Sarah, Jenny, Lola, Carryl, Ally, Michael, Cheryl, Nidhi, Amy, Raja, Alastair, Richard and so many more. I’m also looking out for the infamous ‘overheard in Cannes’ Andrew 🙌🏼 #CannesLions2024 #Creativity #connection #staycurious #Innovation #Inspiration #FutureForward

You are what you eat. And also the information (and inspiration) you consume. For me, Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is a rich, nourishing feast that feeds both mind and spirit. It does little good for my body, though — but hey, we all walk a lot here, and that makes my Apple Watch happy. Anyway, Cannes isn't exactly a budget-friendly affair. Years ago, a great boss I had gave me this excellent piece of advice: if you're at a good point in your career and have the chance to invest in yourself, consider Cannes. Don't wait for your agency to foot the bill. The competition for those internal budgets is fierce — creative leads with specific KPIs, long-standing employees, and, let's be honest, a bit of office politics. Getting sponsored isn't exactly a guaranteed outcome. So, if you're serious about propelling yourself forward, about rewarding yourself for a year of hard work, invest some of your hard-earned Euros in this experience. After all, your personal growth is mostly your responsibility, not your employer's. Take charge of your own journey. Be the leader of your own creative evolution. There are so many options available: student passes, young professional options, special passes, and quite convenient digital passes if traveling is not your thing. Great efforts from the organizers to make the festival more accessible. Can they do more? Let's see. For me, most of the good things that have happened professionally are connected to Cannes — friends old and new from all over the world, jobs landed, promotions earned, awards received, the big frustrations, the awards not won (and the lessons I've learnt)– it's all somehow been related to that one week in June, year after year. Cannes teaches you things that are not taught anywhere else. This is like my 12th Cannes... And if you ask me where I'll be next year the third week of June... #CannesLions2024 #CannesLions #InvestInYourself #LifelongLearning #CareerDevelopment #LeadershipMindset #CreativeGrowth #CannesLessons
